I think Garland and Nichushkin would likely change spots in the lineup here. Call me a homer but I'd prefer to remove one of Compher, Helleson or the 1st. I'm happy giving up Helleson, a first and third for Garland's prime years on a contract like this. He can come in when one of Kadri or Bura leave (that's the outcome I see.)

If Canucks really need more than that, maybe we can add Jost to this or maybe just move on and Nucks can find a buyer for that price.

Compher is such a beauty middle 6 forward and can slot into all special teams when need be. Someone you really want to keep for a deep playoff run.

Helleson could be the RD that it sounds like Vancouver would be looking for to pair with Hughes.

How much more in your opinion? A 1st + 3rd + Helleson is quite a decent amount to upgrade from Compher (16 points in 30 games) to Garland (24 points in 39 games).

If we made this trade I'd rather put Garland on the 3rd line. He's at his best at 5v5 and this gives Newhook a proper skillful winger to play with. Nichuskin also elevates that 2nd line a lot too.

If this trade is made now or at the deadline then Compher would need to go the other way for cap purposes.

Yeah, perfect fit. Also a perfect fit next to Girard though... and he's already NHL ready imo. He could play in the NHL tomorrow and not look too out of place given his mature playstyle and size.

I'd probably want Olousson over the 1st and you can keep Compher. I'd also probably want a 2nd vs a 3rd

That makes sense, doing my own ACGM to see how it looks with my own desires (getting one of Mayfield, Braun or Manson) fits cap wise. I think I put Garland on 2L because that's what I keep hearing where Giroux would fit amidst all the talk about the Avs being interested in him.

oct - .89ppg
nov - .57ppg
dec - .60ppg
jan - .33ppg

3 points in his last 10 games and his ice time dropping over 2 minutes a game from november to january.

so not at all what you're suggesting.

I don't think mackinnon has forgiven garland for making him throw his helmet back at him

That is another thing that would make this trade interesting. "Hey Conor, how's it going? I see you're... keeping that helmet on eh?"

Definitely. If he came cheap for some reason, then I like the fit. But his cap hit just forces someone else out (Kadri or Burakovsky), who the team then loses for nothing.

I don't think Burakovsky gets as much money as many seem to think. Comps point to a slight raise imo, but nothing over 6M at the very max. So basically the Avs would be trading all that plus lose Burakovsky and they only save a little money in their top 6. Not worth it. Not even close imo.

So Olausson + Barron + 2nd and Canucks taking no cap back? Doesn't seem that great for Colorado.

Yes I agree. I was simply clarifying what the other posters proposal was, not saying that I would actually offer that.
