I'm not saying that these guys are infallible. But saying openly that he's a cap dump drain lol that kind of intense. Subban at 9M return 2x2nd and 2B prospect.
1- At his going rate of play, he is headed straight for cap dump territory. That is certainly not a hot take, nor is it an original one. Lots of folks are saying this, which is precisely why Montreal is having to come out and say "Hey, we won't offload him cheap!"
2- I have to keep saying this over and over, but this notion of trade comparables almost never applies. Every team has different needs, weaknesses, restraints and competitive situations, and that's before we even get to the fact that time marches on. Plus, people always love to pick a bad trade and then set that as the standard - that's not how comparables even work.
As for Subban specifically, 1) he was a waaaaay better performer when this trade happened, 2) Santini was never a prime prospect and he was already like 23 at the time, and Davies was a 7th rounder, so calling them B prospects is quite the stretch & 3) both picks were in the mid-30's, so again not blue chip territory. That was a classic quantity over quality deal, and the Preds were cool with that because they really just wanted out of his contract.
