Description
Hard to garner value between Trouba and Gardiner. I've noticed some leafs fans don't seem to like Gardiner but you have to understand a couple things;

A. He scored 40+ points this season

B. He hasn't had a consistent D partner. (Hence I like him next to Myers)

C. He's 26, fitting Winnipeg's core age pretty well.

Winnipeg has to let Hellebuyck develop he will be an NHL starter all goalies go through rough patches. He's only 23, the team will be contending in 2 years, maybe less. They have a great core, they need to move for a LD but after they do simply stay the course.

Toronto fan here and i would accept that trade from Toronto's end. Gardiner gets a lot of hate because he makes some very blatant mistakes every few games that overshadow all the good things he does. But overall he's been good this year and is a great skater/puck mover.

I'm sorry but i have two major problems with this...
1. I'd argue that Trouba has a ton more value than Gardiner. Trouba is a legit #1 D while Gardiner is an adequate 2nd pairing (3-4) defencemen. Trouba is younger with far more room to grow still. The value gap between those two players can't be made up with B prospects. This deal with Myers instead of Trouba would work for the Jets (although i hate the Leafs and don't want to see them succeedwink

2. We (speaking as a Jets fan) can NOT afford to waste another season of a talented roster with below league average goaltending. Fans will lose their %&4* if we start the 2017-18 season with the same two goaltenders. Chevy will be run out of town (by empty seats in the MTS center) if he doesn't acquire a solid goalie this offseason.

Of course....these are just my opinions...

Your Trouba assessment is fair, I will not argue with you on his value it's simply more of a fitting needs trade.

As for the second part I disagree. Young goalies struggle all the time. John Gibson is struggling now, Crawford struggled when he was young. Luongo struggled. Its simply part of the development of a goaltender.

I have to agree with chezyldayoff. Jets wouldn't trade Trouba for all 3 of those pieces, let alone adding in Petan too. Trouba is our best d this season, taking on all the toughest matchups.

Myers for Gardiner as a base would be worth discussing but for a Trouba trade there can't be any adds unless it's the Jets adding to get a superstar player.

Jets will get a veteran goalie to pair with Helle next year. 0% they roll with Helle/Hutch but I agree that young goalies sometimes struggle. I think Helle puts up a .920 save percentage next season with a competent backup able to take 30-35 starts.

Don't know how Gardiner has one of the highest "plus" of all defencemen. Yes understand wouldn't do the deal but it's not as lopsided as many Jet fanmight think. Have to ponder how much longer Trouba will be a Jet. He can be a UFA in three more years.

How is Toby on your top pair he has been playing at a third line level the whole year??? Also Morrissey has been better than Trouba in terms of defensive consistency.
