Yeah leafs would probably trade Connor Brown and his 20 goal rookie year and $2.1M contract for Riley Sheahan's 2 goals in his last 96 games and $2.1M contract!

Leafs trade for Eichel...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>Nylander obviously has point per game upside, so I don't really see why Eichel would be Kapanen, a 1st and a 2nd more valuable then Nylander?
How exactly does this make the Leafs better going forward? Nylander will be a C long term, so I fail to see any benefit in giving up so much to go from Nylander to Eichel as our 2nd line C?
Would we not be better served using those 3 assets to grab a good Top 4 dman, and keep Nylander?</div></div>
Agreed ^^ This is an awful trade for toronto

He's not supposed to be an offensive guy. He was never supposed to be an offensive guy. He is a better player than those numbers suggest. You're wrong on all accounts. There was actually plenty of interest in Sheahan at the deadline (Leafs included).</div></div>
I meant his defensive/physical game is not good enough to make up for his lack of production. By no means is he supposed to be a pure offensive guy or a natural goal scorer, he's defense first forsure, but his defensive game isn't good enough to make up for his poor offense. Not saying there's no interest but any team would be stupid to give up a second rounder for him.
Recent players moved for 2nd round picks: Brian Boyle, Anthony DeAngelo, Brian Elliott (2nd rounder + conditional 3rd on him resigning), Brian Bickell & Teravainen for a 2nd & 3rd.
Sheahan has nowhere near the value of those players

2017-18 Playoff Bound??
Adding a fourth line centre and a third pairing dman (or very low end 2nd pair d) makes the Avs go from by far the worst team in the league to the playoffs?? Don't think so. Although i like the avs and want them to be in the playoffs

I cringe thinking about this team on international ice (or any ice)... think of how slow they'd be. I think we'd be better off sending the team Canada world junior team and a veteran goalie like Scrivens

Thread:
Why has fighting not been removed from the NHL yet?
If fighting was removed from hockey there would be no punishment or sense of fear for running star players or making dirty plays. Fighting keeps the league in check and prevents the game from getting out of hand and dirty. Yes fighting is dangerous, but there has been far less concussions from fighting than there has been from big hits, does that mean body checking is stupid and should be removed? I think fighting is part of the game and shouldn't go anywhere, and I think it would lead to more dirty plays if it did. Ex: Malkin had a big hit on Blake Wheeler earlier this year and Wheeler was pissed off about it, the next game the two fought to even the score, without fighting Wheeler would have tried to lay a huge hit on Malkin to get revenge, which could have been dirty/head shot and that's how bad hits from behind start, and where most concussions happen. The league did a good thing when they banned players from taking off their helmets before fights and I think that's as far as they should go.

Toronto Trade
Toronto fan here and i would accept that trade from Toronto's end. Gardiner gets a lot of hate because he makes some very blatant mistakes every few games that overshadow all the good things he does. But overall he's been good this year and is a great skater/puck mover.

He's a D-Man.</div></div>
Yeah but what I'm trying to say is his defensive stats haven't been that good this year, and it's not like his point productivity is making up for that. He has the worst possession numbers by far out of the isles regular dmen - his stats are dragged a bit lower by a high % of defensive zone starts, but still his adjusted numbers aren't great. I'm not only focusing on fancy stats, hes a really good Dman and would love it if the Leafs traded for him, just think JVR, 1st round and a good prospect is too much.

Why do Toronto fans want to move JVR so bad?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wulfgar85</b></div><div>Jvr and Bozak as lazy defensively. They both dissappear for long stretchs of time. The only reason they look better this season is Marner is carrying their line.</div></div>
Agreed. JVR is a very lazy player - doesn't backcheck hard enough at all, not good in his own end, very bad at making a pass out of the D zone (he almost always chips it off the glass and out, which is bad when he isnt under extreme pressure because it gives the puck back to the other team). He is very good in front of the net and can finish, but he does not drive play at all and disappears too often. He is only useful when he is given the puck in tight - he never creates chances. JVR was my favourite leaf player going into this season but it seems like every game I want to trade him more and more. Agreed with Palhal that I dont think it would be useful to trade him for picks, unless they are very high quality picks, but if he can fetch a legitimate defenseman in the offseason im all for it.
