The trade is horrible for Toronto. The better and better Mrazek plays, the more his trade value goes up or maybe the Leafs even keep the tandom next year. I'll keep the assets and the cheaper Dermott over Murphy.

It’s a lot of noise from Chicago’s POV. Combined MAF and Murphy are worth more than Toronto is offering up here… and we also get 3 cap “dumps” for our trouble.

I don't think this is beneficial for either team tbh. Not enough for us to bite and not worth it for TOR

I see one cap dump in Ritchie, where are the other two? Wouldn't trade Robertson for Muprhy MAF alone nevermind the package.

Let’s get this out of the way… Dermott is being included to help the cap work. I’m not sure its correct to call him a cap dump as that has extreamly negative associations on this site but I’m alsonot sure what his purpose in this trade would be other than to clear money. Mrazek is a cap dump because of the term on his contract as well as his injury problems the only team he has positive value for right now is the one that signed him in FA.

Also, if you aren’t a fan of Murphy and wouldn’t trade certain assets for him that is cool, but as I stated in my prior post Chicago could get more for both players in separate trades.

It's a bad deal for the Leafs. Sure Murphy is better than Dermot, that's the only benefit for this season. But like so many posts, no consideration for the Leafs cap and Murphy's 4.4m X 4 contract staring next season. Getting rid of Ritchie isn't going THAT expensive to get rid of.

By the way, Mrzarek and Fleury have identical GAA this season and near identical save %.f

and yet one team's defense is bad and gives up a lot more high danger chances and the goalie plays against the best teams and the other team's defense is good and that goalie typically plays against the weaker teams

So, MAF is a big upgrade to Mrazek in my mind and Mrazek gives Chicago a proven NHL goalie for a few years as they develope their #1 goalie of the future. Dermott gives them a versatile bottom pair dman, Hollowell is a big man and an interesting prospect and Robertson is a medium to high end prospect to sweeten the pot for the Ritchie cap dump that could turn into a good bottom 6 forward for them. He is a good player, just no fit for him here. Overall I think it does have value for both teams in their current situation

Except for one bad game, Mrzarek has been good. It's hard for a goalie to get into the swing of thing when he's come off two injuries. We'll see how Mrzarek does when the schedule gets busy in the next two and half months. Strange that you say the Hawks defence is so bad. With Jones, and the untouchable Murphy, and the seemingly good DeHann who supposedly get a nice return by TDL...., and then you say the Leafs defence is so good which is includes Holl and Dermot playing regularly which apparently are cap dumps on CF.

Hawks have Lankinen and Soderblom in net behind MAF, both good backups at a minimal. Mrazek is an overpaid backup, I don't see the value in him for the Hawks at a significant cost increase over Lankinen or Soderblom.

For LHD, Hawks have young/cheap/players/prospects in Caleb Jones, Stillman, Galvas, Kalynuk, Beaudin, Vlasic. I don't see Dermott being better, younger or having more upside then the options Hawks have in the bottom two lines on the left side and Dermott is more expensive then all of them.

So that said, Dermott and Mrazek will likely be viewed as the Leafs moving cap to the Hawks and therefore aren't carrying much value or perhaps even negative value to the Hawks.

Mrazek has played 8 games this season and only 3 games posted above a .900. He has a .902 sv % in those 8 games overall and only has faced 224 shots (only 28 SA per game on average). He's not been good, fair comment on his injury, however he's had multiple injuries in his career which is a concern in itself. He wasn't great either playing behind the best or top 2 defenses in Carolina frankly.

The first 15 games this season, the Hawks collectively were absolutely awful; Jones was brutal as well. Since then, De Haan is playing well for who he is as a second liner. Jones is playing well as a #2 but not a #1. Murphy is playing well as a second liner. The 3rd line has been a rotation of players/prospects. Hawks don't have a clear #1 guy on the left and McCabe has been jammed into that role...he's not playing well and I'd argue not better then a 3rd liner...he's looked bad definitely as a first liner. Also, the team collectively isn't playing great defense, not just the defense. If the team doesn't subscribe to playing defense and commit to the system, it's a lost cause regardless of individual players playing well.
