Habs TDL and Offseason

Created by: codykaps
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2022
Published: Feb. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mix of moves the Habs are expecting to make at the Trade Deadline (Chiarot & Lehkonen) and this offseason (maybe Petry & maybe Allen). I don't expect the Habs will be able to trade Gallagher.

Drouin is the big trade candidate next season that should return a 2nd or more (50% retained) at the TDL. Allen too if not traded in the offseason (likely for a 2nd or a 3rd+). Byron will have to play well to be considered a TDL candidate but should only cost a late pick.

Any GM giving up a 1st round pick for Chiarot will be fired and you have St.Louis giving up a 1st and a 4th without retention...

NYR aren't giving up Schneider or the 1st alone for that package.

Oilers can’t add Allen without risking skinner next year on waivers which zero chance he would clear.

I mean literally every report out there has Chiarot going for a first. If there are 12+ teams offering up their 1st rounder than someone will likely add in another (small) piece as the difference maker, no? And yes, Habs would definitely retain 50% salary. I kept getting an error when trying to do it.

NYR have Miller, Jones, Schneider, Lundkvist who are all 20-22yrs old, offensive defensmen. They're stronger on the right side and locked in with Trouba + Fox long term so you'd have to think Schneider/Lundkvist are more likely the one(s) to move.

Tampa traded Foote (a late first rounder) plus a 1st for Coleman so I think the Habs have to push for similar value -- i.e. 1st + A/B+ prospect. I've added Montreal sending an early 3rd back to make up the difference.

Then 12 gms would be fired… Get over it Chiarot perform at his best in the playoffs…. I know a soft team who can’t win a round that would need it

Drury wouldn't even let you finish the offer before he hung up the phone.

Waive Smith if necessary. Fair chance he goes unclaimed, but if it's a concern, use the Spezza technique and threaten retirement.

Zero chance Edmonton does that to smith. Certainly not for Allen smith when healthy is miles better

They are not giving either of those things for Lehko.

Healthy is part of the problem.
Smith: .912 and 2.70 career
Allen: .911 and 2.56 career
I wouldn't say "miles" better.

What I'm proposing is running with 3 goaltenders. Smith is only sent down on paper and when he is up a waiver exempt healthy scratch is sent down. That way Skinner doesn't get overwhelmed if Smith does get injured again.

Feel free to share one report with us. And I do mean an actual sourced news report - not some wiggle word could maybe might be I'm hearing rumblings ("rumblings" being some wack Twitter or THW mention they're parroting).

Foote was the 29th overall pick in the first, basically a second rounder. He’s played 6? NHL games in the two years since being traded. Schneider has already played 10 games in his first year as a pro. They’re not comparable.
