It's just a 5th, but Minnesota has no need for cal and can't afford his cap

With smith starting to resemble more of last years ability I see the need in net fading away this could turn into one of those trades waited too long to cash in on. Betting if islanders were serious about doing it coulda happened a few weeks ago.

The Oilers and Kings trades are beyond homer material. There is no shot of the Isles getting a first let alone a first and a third for Mayfield. Also a first is not getting sent to the Isles for Varly unfortunately. I agree with the guy above regarding Clutter

Varly will most likely be an off-season/draft move. Parise can get a 2nd, Nick Foligno, who was worse statistically at last years TDL, got a 1st. Clutterbuck gets a 3rd with retained money.

Parise doesn’t get a 2nd. He really doesn’t have much value.

Nick Foligno shouldn’t get a 1st and more. Parise gets a 2nd easily.

Isn’t betting on smith what got them where they are in the first place? Smith can be good but he’s also extremely old for a NHL goaltender and injury prone. Koskinen has proven to not be a great backup plan. It might lessen the urgency a little but not aiming to upgrade at goal (especially with smiths age and no heir apparent) is folly

Matt Roy, Sean Durzi and Sean Walker all have two years left on their contracts. Why would we want Scott Mayfield even if he DOESN'T cost a first?
