The most the Habs will give up for Laffy

Created by: JeffGorton
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2022
Published: Feb. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the most the Habs would realistically offer for Laffy. No Caufield and no Mtl 1st in 2022 or 2023

Anderson could be switched with Lehkonen but i think Anderson has more value. Most id add is maybe a Fairbrother level prospect and a 3rd

Did you happen to look at the Rangers cap situation before formulating that thing?

Anderson almost adds negative value to this trade.

Nah Laffy should be one of the best wingers in the league in a few years, unfortunately his development is being stunted by the Rangers underutilizing him

It’s still way too early to tell, he has only been in the league for a year and a half

They have 17 million in cap space.

Fox gets a 9 million raise so 8m

Anderson - Nemeth = -3m so 5m

Strome is either resigned (id let him leave if he wants more than 5.5m)

Chytil will be dealt so another 2m gone

Rangers will want to upgrade on Georgiev so another 2m gone

Reaves is gone in 2 years

Everyone else is on an ELC and are RFAs afterwards. No cap crunch at all

Starting next season the Rangers have just under $10M free. Go back and look.

Also, don't act like Anderson adds value. He's a cap dump for you. You're not doing anyone any favors.

I legit did the math. Do they not teach that in Pittsburgh?

I can't see why the Rangers would want to give up on Lafraniere so early and I can't see why the habs would want to move that many futures when they are beginning a rebuild.

Rangers are in win now mode and Laffy doesnt fit in their window and the Habs arent gonna god through a 4-5 year rebuild, more like 2-3 years. So getting the high end prospects now makes it even quicker. Habs already got the quantity with 12 picks this draft, they just need the high end talent

Woe woe woe, while I agree NY is probably not a team that would be in on Anderson due to cap reasons, he is not a cap dump for the Habs whatsoever.

According to the very site you're using, the Rangers next year have projected cap space of $9,683,531.

Key UFA: Strome
Key RFAs: Kakko, Gorgiev and Blais

While they're unlikely to keep Gorgiev they will still need to sign a back-up.

So please, with your expert level math skills, please explain to me how Anderson fits next year when considering the projected cap space and likely salaries for Strome, Kakko, Blais and budgets for a back-up.

Anderson is only gonna add 3M to the cap since Nemeth comes the other way.
Chytil is gonna be traded
A backup won’t cost more than 1.5 million so let’s just say they save 500k

Strome is worth 6M (I’d let him go personally, you can get more with that 6M) but let’s say he stays

So if you did the rough math

9.5 - 3 + 2.3 + 0.5 - 6 = 3.3m or 8.8m if they let Strome walk

This is me rounding down the entire time for the adding cap space and rounding down when they lose cap space.

So they aren’t in any dire situations

They're letting Chytil walk and replacing him with who? How much is Kakko getting?

What do I do with this information? Thank god I know now the most you'd offer for the guy drafted first overall 16 months ago is a 30 year old defenseman on an expiring contract, a middle 6 winger with 6 years left on his deal, a late first and a mid tier prospect.

What are we doing here?

This is like if I offered Patrik Nemeth, Barclay Goodrow, Lauri Pajuniemi, a 1st and a 2nd for Nick Suzuki

Anderson exactly what you said, a middle six winger with six years left and he's overpaid to boot.
