And then he’s gone after the season. Odds are they don’t get close to a cup. Still need a top 6 winger and you overspent on an old winger. Good job. This is what shouldn’t be done. These trades will guarantee they never get close to a cup. Blais should not be getting a raise.

Not sure why you think he would leave. Gets to play in his home state and in MSG. Gets to play on a contender, gets to play with his buddy Panarin. Seems like a good spot to me

Cap reasons dictate everything. Have to fill out the remaining roster and sign Miller and Laf. Gonna take up a lot of the $15 mil in cap.

I would do this trade this year... but would he accept ? and I think Strome signs for 5 mil for 7 years. And they won't trade Nemeth he will be bought out end of this season and it will only cost a mill next year and mill two seasons later according to this site. I see us getting Kane as like we got St Louis in 14. I would do it for sure.

That’s my take with every trade involving the Rangers on this site. They’re focused on 1 or 2 years and then the team is absolute **** and mediocre in the future with no room to make any moves or prospects to infuse into the lineup.

That old winger has 53 points in 49 games. Has anything suggested that for some reason its going to stop?
You would also hope that after a year of seasoning in the AHL, Othmann would be ready to play.
This is the alternative to trading for Miller as far as a guy with 2 years at 50% retained.
You get 2 years to try win the cup. Its a gamble for sure, but has Kakko shown you anything to say that he can take that next step? I know hes still a kid but sometimes you need to gamble.

Unless Kane takes a term deal like Strome to keep the AAV down, its highly unlikely that the Rangers could hold onto him.

No, I’m not living in a fantasy island like everyone on here who thinks this team is a piece away from a cup.

I love how short sighted all of you people think. Enjoy the mediocrity that comes from making rash decisions. **** is gonna be the 2010’s all over again.

This after all the Rags homers shoot down Miller?

2x the cap hit
Bigger package
Not as versatile
Much older
Etc etc etc.

Makes zero sense sorry

I find that most of the stuff I post is very thought out. If its nonsense or just making calculations, I always preface my posts with that. This post was mostly about seeing if Kane was doable with resigning Strome. Sadly people take this far far too seriously, by your posts, it seems like you take this way too seriously. I dont understand why people get so angry and frustrated by people thinking out loud.

Kane would be so great with NYR and has a lot of good years left in him. He's also made his money so wouldn't be looking to max out in his next contract. Gotta go for it when your windows open!

Not angry. I just don’t agree with the notion that this team is a Kane or Miller away from challenging for a cup. I view that as being shortsighted when people say screw let’s go for it for two years and figure it out afterwards. What was the point of attempting to rebuild in the first place then. They’re not beating Florida, Tampa or Carolina. I see them struggling with Pittsburgh in a 1st round matchup and unlikely for them to win. I stand by my original thought that signing Panarin and trading for Trouba are the worst thing this team could’ve done. The split in contending now versus later will be the idea that will prevent this team from winning a cup. I spent the entire 2010’s watching a team that was good but not enough waste picks and prospects at half baked attempts at the cup when they were good for maybe 2-3 of those years.

We have the 3rd youngest team in the league. Why is the window so short is my question?

To your point the cap, you'll have to start paying players more. Tale old as time. Take advantage of guys when they're on ELC. Throw in Igor's good deal for the next three years then he'll get a raise and why not try to win when you have a goalie playing out of his mind?

I can’t wait to see them execute this very idea and waste all the picks and prospects and be stuck in mediocrity. This team isn’t gonna win a damn thing.

I dont disagree that the problems plaguing this team are far deeper rooted than just getting a big name for the top 6. Im on record saying and very adamant about my thoughts on the fact that if we dont fix our 3rd line, theres absolutely no reason to discuss anything about getting those high end players. No one wins a cup with 3 lines.

Unfortunately those problems will be the reason why this team won’t win. If we were in Colorado, Vegas, Tampa’s, Carolina or Florida’s spot I’d say we should go all in, but we’re not and not as good.

I also think theres some extreme mishandling and bad choices by management and coaches. This is the time the Rangers should give Barron a shot to center Panarin and Strome, yet for some ridiculous reason they insist on playing that ankle weight Hunt. They stand nothing to lose to try Barron in that spot.

That’s one for the life of me I won’t understand. Barron has looked good, but they seem to have zero interest in utilizing him in any meaningful way.

The only way something like that even POSSIBLY gets done is if it is before the TDL. If NY were giving that much up they would want to get more than one season out of him. Also, I don't think they would get him down to a contract offer that is affordable enough for NYR to get him to stick around after next season. But considering he is from NY state and would be playing with panarin again, etc., you never know. Playing on another team that is competitive might reinvigorate him and get him to take a big discount.

This right here could be a mistake on a JT Miller size level. Who knows, this kid could get the opportunity, grab it and never let go. The potential to solve our top 6 issues could be done in house and its completely brushed off.
