Big Trades at Every Position

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2022
Published: Mar. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These are all big trades at every position.

We lose a lot of prospects but get some really good pieces signed to term. Also shed some cap for next year. I think Fleury + Campbell would be a good tandem. Of course I would prefer this deal to only happen if Campbell extends before the deadline so we have someone signed for next year.

The cap works with Muzzin coming back early as well.

These team would be a force.

Roy is not available until Faber goes pro. I'm going to just start copy-pasting this.

his leadership alone will net you guys a 3rd to a 5th. I say a team would pay a 3rd for him. Very low cost for great leadership, size, experience. As a 7 or 8 dman that would be nice to have.

I assumed he would not be available. Of all the guys I traded for here. But I offered a replacement in Holl signed for 1 more year, a very good prospect and the swap of 2nd for 1st. (let's call it 15 spots in the draft).

I think LA would consider this.

If they get a 6th for him, they are lucky. He's essentially a 7th Dman who will be good for the locker room

We agree on what he brings to a team. I just think the Chara brand name will net more than a 6th. We will see on the deadline!

Los Angeles declines. Matt Roy is our best defensive defenseman. The move from #49 overall to #25 overall (at best) and Holl and Robertson wouldn't persuade us to give him up. Plus, Roy is signed for one more season than Holl and is two years younger.

I think you need to understand where the Kings are at. They are stacked at RD and have prospects coming, Holl would not be involved in a package for Roy. They also are looking for an established top-6 winger or top-4 LD, they have several wing prospects similar to Robertson.

The Kings are currently in a playoff spot (2nd in the Pacific), their best stay-at-home defenseman is Roy who they have had to lean on with Walker being out for the season. There is no reason the Kings do this, until or unless a suitable Roy replacement comes back (that isn't Holl).

Yea that's why I wanted him :P. I offered a decent package to at least make LA consider it. But I understand why they wouldn't make the deal!

You have to understand that teams don't make trades to stand in place; they're trying to improve. When constructing a trade, ask yourself what you're improving on the OTHER team as well as on your own. Here, how are the Kings being improved? Not at RD, because even the most blinkered Toronto fanatic knows that the whole reason why you're trading Holl for Roy is to upgrade there. Not at RW, which is one of the Kings' two primary areas of need; Robertson doesn't play RW. And not at LW, either, because Robertson isn't an improvement on Kempe, Iafallo, Moore or Grundstrom, who are all either better than he is or further along in development. And the Kings, with one of the top prospect pools in the NHL, aren't being improved by adding a high draft pick who won't become an actual player until two or three seasons from now.

That's why Los Angeles declines.

However, once Faber does go pro it is a fair deal imo

Holl has no place on the Kings if Faber is ready and Roy goes. But yeah, 1st + winger prospect will work for me.
