Just Kidding.

Watching the leafs this year has made all those years of pain seem worth it. I've noticed (probably everyone has) the one thing holding the leafs back from being a contender is defense. Goaltending has been solid. Forwards have been exceptional. Aside from Reilly, Gardiner and Zaitsev, the defense has been mediocre at times. So hence the trades.

Manson trade- With the expansion draft, it makes him attainable. Its going to cost a bit but losing a 2nd, a 3rd and soshnikov (who appears to be a middle six winger similar to komarov) is plausible considering our forward depth and loaded prospect pool.

Tanev- He is as one dimensional as it gets. But he excels at playing defense something the leafs could use. He is young enough to pair with Reilly who can make up for Tanev's offensive deficiencies and it would also give him a reliable partner. At the cost of Marchenko who we picked up for free, leipsic who is similar to komarov again and a 2nd, its not too big a price to really solidify the defense core.

Finally sign Alzner as a shutdown option to pair with Zaitsev. And Trade for Sheahan who can fill Boyle's spot (lets be honest, he's not staying and we can't afford to pay him 3 million long term).

No I didn't trade Bozak and JVR because we don't need to. Agreed we may lose them for nothing but with Bracco, Rychel, Gauthier, Timashov, Grundstrom, 1st in 2017, 1st in 2018 we have options to replace them.

I would love Alzner but no way he signs for anything less then 4M

My thoughts:
-Alzner will most likely sign a monster contract (36million over 6 years) as there will be some teams absolutely desperate for defense (Buffalo?)
-I don't see a need for Sheahan, the guy struggled to score all year so he doesn't seem like an ideal piece (especially at the expense of a pick) but I think we could consider overpaying Boyle for 1/2 years (2.5-3?) but worse comes to worse Eric Fehr could fill the role fine for free
-I like Tanev, he's a beast defensively and although people here don't care for him Leipsic is a solid prospect
-I truly think Carrick is an NHL defenseman and could play third pairing minutes, I don't see the need to bring in another guy ahead of him and put him as a third defender

manson and tanev would get better returns. alzner isn't needed that badly why expose carrick, leafs need all the dmen they can get. like that you didn't trade bozak and jvr,

I think you try to acquire Manson OR Tanev they're very similar players and with Carrick proven for a top 6 spot we only need 1 more RHD (with Marchenko being the 7th D)
regardless you need to give up more for them

Alzner signing might not be necessary, I think management goes after a vet LHD for 1-2 years (Hunwick, Smith, Kindl?) untill Dermott or Nielsen is ready

i don't hate Sheahan (as Babs probably likes him) but wouldn't wanna give up a pick (maybe Soshnikov or Rychel straight up?)
