do you have top 3 protected because you know how bad chiarot is and he could bring the leafs to bottom 3?

I’m assuming Philly ownership wants to ice a competitive team next year. Petry is actually quite good. Has many quality years left.
Habs would be open to prospects instead of picks also.

the Leafs are doing that on their own grin

Chiarot doesn't do anything for them at this point. Well on their way to another first-round exit, IMO.

yup the 7th place team in the NHL is well on their way to the bottom of the standings lmao, i do agree with you on chiarot tho, a bottom pairing d doesnt do anything for any team at this point

Hopefully Soup can bounce back - they're not on their way to the bottom of the standings but my point is they need a top pair RHD if anything, IMO.

Petry is rumoured to have an asking price of a 2nd + mid prospect and that hasn’t been payed up yet, I doubt a team that is on pace to get a top 10 pick would give up their first rounder for him + a 3rd

Depends on what’s considered a mid prospect. A 2nd and Kravtsov I have to imagine the Habs would do. Who’s untouchable among Flyers prospects?

Philadelphia needs to tear it all down before they try to ice a competitive team. They are going to be selling players for assets, not giving up assets for players.

Maybe. It wouldn’t be an unreasonable decision if that’s the way they go. I think they try to be competitive though. You can’t crush Carter Hart’s spirit having him get shelled night in night out.

Habs have other young pieces that Philly might want as well.

Moving a top-5 pick for an aging defensemen for a team that will not make the playoffs during his time in Philadelphia doesn't make sense. Ownership understands the Flyers situation - they had the same core from 2013-2020 and could never win. They changed up the locker-room this offseason and they got even worse. They need a full rebuild and keeping first round picks is usually the best start.

Flyers aren't trading this years first for anything. Also if they are getting Petry Montreal has to take back cap probably JVR

Not sure, but I’m sure Petry (1 mil retained) could get a 2nd + a guy like Sami Tuomaala would be something I could see happening, tho I think Philly might want to rebuild and Montreal doesn’t want to retain

Flyers are treating Tuomaala as a 1st rounder in value since they really sccrewed the pooch over the Risto Trade.

Hard pass on that one. It might not be Philly, but someone is going to be happy that they traded for this guy. Multiple good years left. Reliable. Healthy. Productive. Most GMs will be able to look past Montreal tanking the first half of this season and the individual player stats that went with it.

Habs are retaining zero salary ever in Petry. That is a reasonable cap hit in the current « $9.5mm cap hit mega deals for young D » environment.

You say reliable like he wasn’t terrible earlier in the year. Also his contract is scary and still he’s not worth a top five pick

Again, most GMs will be able to look past Montreal tanking the first half of this season and the individual player stats that went with it.

You’re welcome to believe that his contract is scary. Most GMs won’t agree with you. Neither with cap hit nor with term.

I also don’t believe he’s worth a top 5 pick. 10th overall? Maybe a bit rich. 15th-20th, that’s probably fair. 25th-30th, probably not enough in most draft years. Flyers or whoever else can look at moving prospects if they prefer holding onto their draft picks.

His contract takes him until he is 38 years old, what do you mean there isn’t potential for that to look ugly. Also the trade has the Flyers in it and the Flyers will finish with around a top 5 pick, something that is very much not worth the price
