How about those 3.6 million dollars in overages? A Seabrook trade (though, likely impossible due to 7years remaining and him being 32, needs to be explored. Hjalmarsson is just too valuable. But.. being realistic, he might be a cap casualty, if Seabrook isn't willing to waive his NMC, or nobody takes him. Hawks would have to reallllllllly sweeten the deal with either picks or rookies to dump Seabrook's contract.

this is more of a question to hawk fans (as a blues fan again suck it but)
would you rather deal Hjalmarsson or Seabrook. idk id rather hold on to Hjalmarsson myself.

Your not accounting for someone leaving via Expansion Draft? I think Marcus Kruger will depart that way, which would mean you need to rework the ARI deal.

It really isn't a matter of who we may want to stay between Seabrook ($6.9M/7 more years, full NMC) or Hjalmarsson ($4.1M/2 more years, M-NTC, NMC). It is all about being cap compliant by opening night and realizing the run is over short of a broken clavicle. Presently, Chicago has 20 active guys with $70.2M in cap hits for '17-18. They will lose one of those signed players to Vegas. They will need to bolster the d corp big time. They also have around $3.5M in bonus overages that will count against whatever the cap ceiling is. If possible, I believe two "bigs" need to go with suitable replacements helping turn this thing around. Trouble is how does that work exactly?! Thank God for the 3 recent parades because this team isn't set up well for the future, IMO.

To answer your question, neither.

Seabrook. There is no way the Hawks trade their #2 D-man who has a great 4.1M cap hit unless they are getting a #2-3 D-man in return for less cap. The Hawks can still roster a team without trading either and would certainly be better in that situation than they would be if they traded Hammer. It's trade Seabs or stand pat. Unless a Hammer trade returns a #2-3 ELC D-man.
