Retention is just brutal it make absolutely no sense for Habs to Retain salary on a 26 years old centerman who would attract interest already at 4,5millons.

Agreed plus the cost to acquire him is higher than that we gave up a 1st + 2nd for him we aren't taking less than a 1st plus good prospect (B or C level)

This is not a steal, is a punishment ahaha. After making all those good deadline deal he would come with that. Glad that it won’t be the case.

If he trades Dvo he’ll get a 1st + decent prospect 😂

To me the return is secondary, if you get rid of is contract then you are in a win win situation. I would settle for less but that will depend mainly on who the draft this offseason. If we get Cooley or Wright, Dvorak will become expendable likely in the 23-24 season.
But i do think that there will be some team really interested in him since he is not making a huge salary and he can provide very good minutes. Team like the Rangers or Calgary even Edmonton could very much use a guy like Dvorak on their 3rd line.

People don't appreciate retention for multiple years enough. It's a limited resource (3 per team), and the potential return value added for rentals alone, normally exceeds what the proposal offers.

$2.2M is roughly the value of a 3rd round pick. For three years, that's three 3rds.
Dvorak was just acquired for a 1st and a 2nd. Montreal isn't about to flip him at a significant loss after one below average, issue-plagued season.

Even if Montreal did decide to cut bait, they aren't going to move him at 50% retained for a pair of 3rds.

Pitlick is likely matched at that price.
A free 3rd isn't a bad return for a waiver pickup, but he's shown enough to suggest he can be a contributor at the NHL level and have a positive impact on the team.
Even then, you're better off proposing a trade than going the offer sheet route.
If Montreal is ready to let him go, he won't be that difficult to acquire. If they want to keep him, you're not offering enough to change their mind.

I don't want pile on the ridiculous Dvorak trade, but some of those signings need to be thought out.

Montreal matches that Pitlick contract, Manson and gets more money or term (probably both) on a new contract, Lehkonen gets more money at that term, Kadri will want more term at that money, etc. It's almost all bad.
