Islanders year 2 of 3

Created by: Kyle_Okposo_Lover
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 28, 2022
Published: Mar. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Again, WIld have so much dead cap with Parise and Suter buyouts so they have to move Fiala. Retained Bailey is an obvious downgrade but teams are very stupid. Kinda doubt Minnesota does this but it is out of conference so you never know. Ive seen so many WIld fans doing similar trades soooooo

Varlamov value seems about right IMO

I really want Soucy for LD2 with Dobson. I think it may be an overpay but I realllllly want him

Arizona wont be able to sign anyone so they take Panik for future considerations

Lee-Brock-Beau: it has worked very well. Keep it.
Fiala-Barzal-Wahly: Barzal-Wahly has looked good and Fiala will really boost it.
Parise-JG-Palms: Jg-Palms is good and Parise will fit in
Bellows/Martin/Johnston-Cizikas-Clutter/Martin/Johnston is whatever. Trotz is annoying

Pelech-Pulock: DUH
Soucy-Dobby: Yes
Salo-Mayfield: Riikola can shift in for Salo. Salo should play 40-50 games.

Sorokin-55-60 games
Holtby-20-30

No room for Raty yet unfortunately. Part 3 will have him. Either LIIGA again or AHL with some NHL time for injuries. Our AHL team sucks though.

That COL First has same protections.

avs pass.

thanks for the thoughtful comment. Why do you say? losing Kuemper to FA forces them to go after a 1A goalie. late late 1st for a starter and 3rd is solid

Can't see Sakic paying yet another 1st for a goalie; he should be able to re-sign Kuemper

With all due respect, Minnesota isn't taking on Josh Bailey. That whole made up rumor by one source was debunked a long time ago. Our gm also isn't dumb, or stupid. In fact, he doesn't make deals like that. He held out for Fleury until Chicago basically agreed to 2nd round pick which won't become a 1st unless Minnesota goes to conference final. So in terms of what you said, 30 terms would have an interest, sl he wouldn't be desperate

avs should be able to re-sign kuemper but
1. varly isn't worth it
2. there are other options.
3. the 1st can be used at the deadline for another asset.

Not really. The Wild are getting destroyed next season and the year after from the buyouts. almost no chance Fiala is on the team next year unless he takes a HUGE pay cut. The WIld are quite stupid IMO. Shouldve just paid a first to offload one of the deals instead of buying out both. HUGE deadcap with them now.

Ive seen tons of wild fans recently go after Bailey. And yes his RAPM charts, WAR, xWAR. GF, GA, xGA etc are all pretty below average, he has a solid point production and is better than anyone else you can get for cheap and only 3.9 mil. Plus a mid first in a good draft is a very solid move IMO

Avs tend to make their moves in the offseason
That is a very fair deal
This is assuming Kuemper leaves. Use context bro

According to you wild are stupid? You really don't know why Guerin bought out suter and Parise. All wild fans are cool with it. They aren't taking on Josh Bailey. Ottawa is very interested in him. Other teams are as well. There are a bunch of teams who will be interested. This summer of wingers, a bunch of good ones that will seek a new home. So Minnesota can sign any of them and trade Fiala before hand. No wild fans have gone after Bailey, it's been islanders fans, so you are lying about that.

The Avs have $26M in cap space and gave up a 1st and Timmins for Kuemper they aren’t losing him in free agency.

not sure where you got the notion that avs make their moves in the offseason when they were just one of the biggest deadline buyers.

this deal isn't fair. a oft-injured 34 year old goalie who's been playing backup and only posted a .913 on a trotz team isn't worth a 2023 1st. maybe avs 2023 1st + johnson for varly. that's something i'd consider.

ok so if kuemper leaves there is still fluery + other trade options.

varlamov was hurt to start the year + SV% isnt a good stat. also a vezina finalist and was 2nd in GSAX last season.

And Johnson aint waiving his NMC while id do that too.

yea like i said varly would be 34 and comes with injury problems. i disagree i think sv% is a good stat. i'm more concerned about what varly did this year than what he did in the past.

ej only has a 13 team ntc. so isles could very well be one of the other 19 teams.

If Fiala decides to take 5-6mil, Minnesota can make it work. And there's also a bunch of wings thus free agency who are seeking a new home.

I am undoubtedly going to be in the minority on this and probably made fun of to some extent but Josh Bailey gets a seriously bad rap. Is he as good as his draft status? Of course not. Did the Islanders grossly mismanage him at the start of his career? Absolutely. But sometimes players take longer to develop; player development isn't linear. And because he's a lead by example, quieter dude that doesn't show a ton of emotion people RAIL on him and most of it is unwarranted. Has he had the best year? No. But he's not terrible. He's exactly what Barry Trotz wants him to be: reliable, defensively responsible and a passer. Josh Bailey is probably the second-best passer on the team behind Barzal. He's best suited as a third-line winger that can move up to the second line when necessary; so that's to say he's a great 3rd line winger and a fine/good enough second-line winger. He kills penalties and is a 200-foot player. I don't think Bailey is going to get traded in the offseason; he's valuable to Trotz.

Debate away...
