I think they find a way to move out a guy like Zucker/Rakell/Carter and find a cheap replacement in UFA/trade

Rakell is a UFA so no need to move him, they can just choose not to resign him after this yr. Do they want to move Carter when they just gave him a new deal this season??

i think Letang resigns and Rust is the guy that walks in FA. NBD Sid can turn any decent winger into a Kunitz or Rust 2.0

I have a lot of trouble seeing both Burns waive to Pittsburgh and San Jose willing retaining 4M while also taking on a multi year, not exactly cheap contract.

Rakell and Carter stay. Zucker and Pettersson are the ones most likely getting traded if we resign Letang

I think they move on from Kapanen as well, especially if resigning Rackell

It just depends on if hes looking for a big raise. He could be added to the Sharks trade (if Letang doesnt resign).

The team that just signed a guy on an expensive deal until he's 36 is rebuilding? You also did not provide an example

Since when is Hertl involved in this. Also, rebuilding teams can sign there #1 C. Tkachuk for example got resigned. Hertl isnt that old also. Many teams that are rebuilding sign there future guy to long term extensions

I think you guys are not being honest with yourselves, IF the Pens were going to let any of their FA walk this summer and they wanted to resign Letang (or he wanted to resign) then the deal would already be done. The fact that it is not already done leads me to believe that one of the two sides do not want to extend or that the term is too much or too little for one side or the other and they will go to FA.

Hertl is 28, Tkachuk is 22 how is that remotely comparable. I brought up Hertl to emphasize that the direction San Jose seems to want to go is not a rebuild like you said

Eklund? He looked like he could be a future star. You are missing the point though

I'm not missing the point. It would make sense to trade burns with retention to a contending team for futures. Burns isnt on a great contract so retaining 3 mil and getting some value for him makes sense
