If you're looking for an up and coming RD then just offersheet Liljegren 5 years at 4 million. Toronto doesn't have the cap to match.

Helge Grans is a carbon copy of Hronek with the same defensive deficiensies, he's not a good replacement for Filip.

I wouldn’t do that Liljegren offer sheet. That is a lot of term, and money for a guy that isn’t that good.

I wouldn't either, I prefer to keep Hronek.

Liljegren is improving every year and is second in 5-on-5 scoring (per 60) in Toronto this year, better than Reilly. He's also a good hitter and would be second on the Detroit team in takeaways per 60 (with three times as many as Hronek). 4 million is what it would take in order to ensure that Toronto can't match and isn't more than Hronek is paid which was the premise here.

From Detroit's POV yes. Don't get me wrong there is no way the Chychrun goes through but the Bertuzzi trade is worse for Detroit.

Haha, yeah, I meant that the Chychrun trade was worse for the Yotes than the 1 year of Bertuzzi trade for the Wings, but yes, both are bad. Hampus Lindholm got a better haul at the deadline than that, and Chychrun > Hampus.

Detroit isn't going to go out shopping Bertuzzi especially since he has said he wants to stay in Detroit. So a team is going to have to put together an offer for him and do you think Detroit is going to accept an offer based on 1yr of Bertuzzi? No it will take a serious overpay to get him out of Detroit.

Honestly. Liljegren is good, but I still wouldn’t offersheet him that much. I would rather get someone else if I was Detroit and I wanted a RHD. Liljegren is not proven, and 5 years is way too much. In my opinion, he won’t be worth 4M for a long time, if not his whole career.

I think Liljegren is pretty good and getting better. He's got pretty good underlying numbers, I would do that offer sheet personally if I traded Hronek for something better.
