That trade is not enough for Marner. I don't see the Leafs moving him either, Nylander and Tavares would go before him. Not that I would like to see them go.

The trade proposed put the Isles in a perilous cap position next season when when Barzel and Walmstrom get new contracts.
Leafs who are in win mode probably don't do that team. But geez if you could utilize the cap space to make team better in multiple positions, it could help the Leafs immediately and get those futures too. It's certainly something both teams might do.

Agreed. I just dont think that contract is worth what it will take to get him. Hes also very much a pass first guy when we desperately need a star goal scorer. I wouldnt wamt any marner deal.

31 goals this year, yes he is pass first because he has a potential 70 goal guy playing center for him.

Theres nothing wrong with him being pass first, our best player is pass first. It just isnt a great fit with him and barzal

And theres no way matthews hits 70

Right now, he's on pace to score 63 - 16 goals in his last 12 would be one hell of a heater but if the Leafs keep losing games 7-6 he's going to have a ton of chances to rack em up.

Just a reminder that the guy you just traded that package for is 1st in points since 2022. Marner really doesn't get much respect on this site.

Eichel was injured, has never produced as much as Marner and demanded a trade. Marner would get a better package.

Eichel is also a center and on a longer term contract, both which bring more value than Marner. Eichel and Marner would fetch similar packages.

How? Eichel had missed a tonne of time due to injury and demanded a trade after suffering a major neck injury. No way he had more value than Marner does now. The guy missed 10 games and is still on pace for over 100 points.
