Description
He has a NMC for a reason. He isn't getting traded. Get over it. Hextall and Sully love the guy. He loves being here. He will play out his contract and likely retire. He won't waive for a trade and is dumb to sign him to an extension and immediately trade him so stop.

He’s underrated and would be a solid leader for the young defense. Can be paired with Seider and allow Seider to shine. And he’s not signed longer term like Pettersson or Matheson so when the LD prospects y’all got are ready, he will be gone and not have to trade him for a loss or him take time away from those young guys.

I don't really see how this team would be improved over this year or have a better shot at contending than now.

Yeah I always thought Dumoulin was underrated especially in those 2 Pens Cup runs. He'd be perfect for Seider. 👍

I would much prefer to trade for Pettersson than Dumoulin.

Pettersson is the perfect player to pair with Hronek and him having term is an advantage. There is no certainty that any of the prospects will be ready to take over already at the TDL. Pettersson will bring stability for long enough that the kids will not only make it to the NHL but also prove they're good enough to play top-4 every game.

Detroit needs both a defensively rock solid player to pair with Hronek and play PK as well as someone who can QB our second PP. Neither of those jobs should be foisted on kids who've never even played on NHL-sized ice before.

Better backup, younger and hungrier players, more offense from the back end. Need to start injecting youth like they did in the back to back years when Rust, Sheary, Guentzel, etc came up and became mainstays. Just because the youth isn’t proven doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be successful. If you aren’t going to trust the youth to come up and be support players, then what’s the point of even drafting? No one would ever get a chance. Can’t ever please everyone. People complain when we don’t use our decent prospects and people complain when we do because we don’t have 30+ goal scorers on every line.

Wouldn’t Seider and Hronek QB your two PP units? Dumoulin can be a defensive rock on the pk and if you need him longer than the contract, could probably re-sign him to a friendlier contract. I mean with new guys you’re going to have growing pains regardless but it’s better to have the solid veterans that have won before to ease them. I’m not sure MP would fill that void.

I have absolutely no issue with you using younger players, I would much prefer that we do, but I think this team needs more drastic changes than just that. If we lose first round I'm very wary about bringing back all 3 UFA's, and I think our blue line needs overhauled and lineup in general needs more toughness. Pettersson being a first liner I also don't think would be a good idea, we could trade away players like him, Heinen, potentially Zucker and get a pretty good scoring boost that we need.

Whose going to take Zucker? He can’t stay healthy. Heinen is a good bottom 6 winger that adds size. Pettersson is just a Dumo lite. Him and Letang have played well together the short time they were paired together. You bring back all 3 UFAs because none of them are the problem. The problems are Kapanen and ERod being snake bitten and inconsistent and in opportune goals against. They’ve had way too many goals in the first couple minutes, last couple minutes, or immediately after scoring goals. Since Barkov & Hertl have signed extensions, there’s not much to pick from for younger 2nd line centers to replace Malkin (who in my opinion would be the one I’d replace if I could)

Hronek is a disaster on the point on a PP. It was tried last season on PP1 but didn't work and this year he's back to playing halfwall as a shooter on PP2.

Hronek simply isn't good enough as a playmaker and passer for that job.

Pettersson's defensive qualities is really exactly what's needed to give Hronek the freedom to be the offensive player that he needs to be in order to be effective. Marcus would also shore up our PK which has been bad. Marcus isn't old but he's played in the league for five years which should be plenty to act as a mentor to the kids and him being Swedish also helps since three of the most talented prospects are Swedish. His term is a positive as we'll always need defensive defenders even if three of our prospects should hit.

The need for someone to QB the PP2 would have to found elsewhere (we tried Leddy this year but it didn't work), right now it's Walman at that spot but he's only temporary. Possible options for that job would be Schmidt or Martinez (or even Matheson if you want to keep Marcus and trade him instead). There's even a few options in FA that could do the job for a year or two.
