Quoting: Devil
Speaking of the Rangers, has there been a time when the Stanley Cup winning team didn’t have a captain like the Rangers? If so what happened during the cup clinching game?
Yes. The Bruins did not have a captain in 1970 or 1972. They did have alternates (like the Rangers do now)-Johnny Bucyk, Phil Esposito & Ed Westfall in 1970, and those three plus Ted Green in 1972. I'd guess that they simply had those players raise the Cup first, then the rest of the team.
Also worth noting that in 1989, the Flames had 2 captains: Lanny McDonald and Jim Peplinski.
