Supply and Demand

Description
With the Kevin Fiala trade I went with Ridly over Robi because the 1st is sure to be later in the 1st round next year. Willing to add a Top 5 protection. If it was to be ‘22 1st I think Robi would be more on the table. This is based a lot of the Reinhart trade last year for a 1st and Levi. (Levi won the Richter Award for best goalie in college hockey.) So a 1st and a high caliber prospect seems to fit for a bona fide Top 6 forward.
I’m aware the Wild have cap problems. But if you think that means a player of his caliber in which you could lock up for the duration of the prime of his career is going to be sold for some leftover pieces. That just isn’t going to happen. Example look at how many rosters here have trades for him it is a reflection of the demand for a player like that. So hence supply and demand.
I think the Gaudreau and Kulikov trade make sense for all parties involved, but the most important part is that the Wild will need to shed cap. And the compensation can definitely change, I do think they are in the ballpark though.

RFAs I have the Wild resigning is Middleton. He has been great with Spurgeon and is getting more comfortable in an offensive role. UFAs I had the Wild signing MAF for 2.5 million. I know it is on the low end but hopefully his connections to our front offices and his noted desires to not move his family he will take a discount for a 1B role as Wallstedt develops in Iowa. Deslauriers and Bjugstad will help us continue our bruising style of play and I think they offer some offensive upside Bjugstad especially, been pretty good in the face off circle.
The one UFA move that I think I went out on a limb on is Barabanov. He has been having a solid year in San Jose and like us they are in a tough cap spot. He could help ease the loss of Fiala. He is also Russian I know here I’m getting rid of Kulikov so this gives Kirill another Russian to talk too. And if one thing is certain we need to keep him happy.
Ben Meyers is the NCAA UFA I have us signing. He would be a nice addition for us up the middle allowing us to put Jost on the wing. And have Rossi replace Gaudreau.

I think this is a pretty good team and can still be competitive next year. Would like to hear feedback on what you think. And a they won’t do that trade isn’t that helpful. So detail is appreciated. I believe the Fiala trade is going to be the most controversial.
I’m going to try this roster here for the next year to see if it could hold up when the crunch gets tighter and we need to resign Boldy.

Trades
1.
MIN
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
I think a mid round draft pick is about right. Might be a slight overpay (wasn’t completely sure on compensation); but I think it is pretty close.
BOS
  1. Gaudreau, Frédérick
Additional Details:
A cost controlled middle 6 center is something that Boston needs and Gaudreau would fit there well.
2.
MIN
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Not completely sure on the compensation. But a late mid-round draft pick sounds about right.
CAR
  1. Kulikov, Dmitry
Additional Details:
A bit of a cap causality for the Wild but could be a solid D-Man for the Canes. He could also go to other teams.
3.
MIN
  1. Greig, Ridly
  2. 2023 1st round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Based a bit off the Sam Reinhart deal. A first and a very good prospect. The Wild generate the cap space they need and keeping building a very strong prospect pool.
OTT
  1. Fiala, Kevin
Additional Details:
A bona fide Top 6 forward. I know the Wild are cap strapped but with the number of teams that are looking to lock up a Top 6 forward for the prime of their career. Price won’t be cheap.

A cost controlled middle six center is basically the last thing the bruins need.

I like the idea of going on Reinharts trade structure, but Reinhart got a lesser prospect and a worse pick

Is Fiala that much better than Reinhart to move from FLA's late 20s pick and Levi to a much higher pick and Greig?

I just don’t think we can expect Greig or a prospect of that tier. Fiala’s stock has risen a lot this year, but Greig’s has gone straight up north.

I think we’re gonna need to trust that our scouting team can find value in a more attainable prospect. Someone that’s on the precipice of a breakout year, not in the midst of one. We have to maximize our return by acquiring a prospect who’s undervalued. That doesn’t mean a nobody, either. Just someone that’s not quite regarded in Greigs company but should be.

Yea I think Guerin's price will be huge for Fiala - like trying to get Ottawa's '22 1st huge. The top of Ottawa's prospect pool, outside of Greig, are all defensemen - which the Wild already have a lot of.

Could definitely see Kulikov getting moved, regardless of his relationship with Kaprizov. Especially if Middleton keeps impressing here, I'd think that becomes more likely this summer.

That’s a better prospect and a MUCH better pick than what Reinhart received.

with Fiala, and hopefully a new coach, OTT pick in 2023 should be in the mid to late teens, which would be better than what Buf got in the Reinhart deal, Greig is untouchable period, Wild should go for either Jarventie or Sokolov if they want a forward, Jarvie is closer to being NHL ready.

I wouldn’t want to move Greig for Fiala 1 for 1 right now. Second best ppg in the W on a mid team with no help, agitator yet scored the nicest goal of any senator this year in the preseason. Getting him for 3 years on his ELC and allocating that cap space to a potential UFA like Giroux makes much more sense than flipping him (plus a high 1st) for Fiala on whatever massive contract he signs in the off-season.

I like the Reinhardt comparison for the trade but Levi was traded almost a full calendar year before he won the Richter award and the 1st that Florida sent was significantly lower than whatever Ottawa’s is projected to be next season. But specific to Levi, he was a good prospect at the time of the trade but by no means “high caliber” so expecting a high caliber prospect from Ottawa doesn’t really make a ton of sense.

What would you think of a Roby Jarventie & ‘23 first. I know the wild would go hard for ‘22 but ‘23 more likely. The ‘23 should most likely be more middle of the pack thinking 10-15 and Jarventie is a good young prospect not at the very top of the prospect pool but still has some good upside. I think looking back this might make more sense. But another factor would be if a bidding war happens only time will tell. But if we got the Jarventie, ‘23 first unprotected. I would be happy. Sucks to see him go but some solid compensation.

Short answer to your question is No, Fiala is not and Reinhart can play center.

Longer answer would be that if Ottawa - who has shown a lot of interest in Fiala would have to pay a first + a prospect for Fiala as any team in the league will IF the wild move him (they can move some money in Talbot/Kulikov/Hartman/Gaudreau/Dumba(to piss people off)) and Ottawa's top prospects after him are all defenseman which, based off recent prospect pool rankings - the wild have significantly more defensive prospects that project top 6+ than they could have on their team over the next 5 years which makes it tough.

Yeah I’d be down for Roby and the ‘23 pick (ideally protected). Roby’s a nice piece but the left side is crowded when you project out what’s already on the roster, especially with an addition like Fiala and possibly someone like Cooley or Slafkovsky with the ‘22 1st. Also think that mirrors the Reinhart trade a little better.

I’d pull the trigger.

Fun but if context, Craig Button just released his top 50 drafted prospect list outside of the NHL and Greig was #18, one spot behind Rossi.

Yeah - and I am guessing that they would not want to give him and a first up for Fiala - which is probably where I dont really see this going anywhere unless they can do prospect shifting between teams- looking to bring in a ~40-70 ranked prospect that plays forward and then send the first as well.

As much as I'd like Fiala, I can't see myself trading Ridly Greig

He's part of my Core-8 (all untouchable unless a "can't pass offer")

The top of Ottawa's prospect pool, outside of Greig, are all defensemen - which the Wild already have a lot of.

There's a guy named Shane Pinto who people are forgetting since he has been injured all year but he's still Ottawa's 2nd best prospect

1- Sanderson
-------------
2- Pinto
3- Greig
-------------
4- JBD
5- Sogaard
6- Jarventie
7- Thomson
-------------
8- Sokolov
9- Kleven
-------------
10- Boucher
Next 5 : Gustavsson, Crookshank, Ostapchuk, Lodin, Daoust

------------- : used to separate tiers.

This is manageable and I'm high on Jarventie (however he's much more boom or bust than Greig). I'd do it with just a top-10 protection, in case Dorion ****s the bed again

Or even something like top-7 protected would be doable.

I don't know where you took your reference but here is what the Sens prospect pool is at the moment :

1- Sanderson
-------------
2- Pinto (C)
3- Greig (LW/C)
-------------
4- JBD
5- Sogaard
6- Jarventie (LW)
7- Thomson
-------------
8- Sokolov (RW/LW)
9- Kleven
-------------
10- Boucher (LW)

Next 5 : Gustavsson, Crookshank (LW), Ostapchuk (LW/C), Lodin (C/LW), Daoust (C/LW)

Top-3 is not really available but after that, everyone (except Sogaard too) could be had if the move help the team.

Best options at forward : Jarventie, Sokolov, Boucher

Best options at defense : JBD, Thomson, Kleven
