Don't think Buffalo would do that, really don't need him anymore.

Caps shouldn’t do the Sammy trade. Caps don’t need Zacha. They should give Sammy 1 more off-season to refine his game before shipping him out for a Meh return.

At that price I would do it. Mittelstadt has a hard time staying healthy and we don't know if Krebs can play C yet. I think this is a good insurance move.

Plus it’s only one year. Could also trade him at the deadline next season

He'd just be taking a spot away from one of the young guys. No thanks.

How is it 1yr, I guess if you move him. But he's got 3yrs left on his contract at 6.25m with clauses.

At that price I would do it...You are correct, it would be great insurance and depth as Cozens, Krebs and even Mittelstadt appear to be capable of producing now that Granato is the HC

...Could also trade him at the deadline next season I presume Lars is a cap casualty. If he performed as well next year as he is this year, some team, maybe the Capitals would give up more than a fourth for him.

I don't know, I think Zacha could be a really good fit on the third line (or maybe even the second), and he has a much higher upside at this point. I think this was Sammy's one more offseason, he's been terrible this season and it's costing the Caps games. I think Zacha's a pretty good return, and probably a higher return than they could get next year.

We are set in our top 9 nine. Don't need more 3rd liners. Zacha doesn't move the needle at all for the Caps. Sammy has been good, he just lets in that 1 bad goal a game due to letting the small things get away. Caps should give him 1 more chance. Can trade him for a Zacha type player next year if he doesn't improve.

Are we all set? Who knows with injuries, and Zacha's a young player who still has promise. Obv Ovi/Kuzy/Wilson/Mantha will be there for a few years in the top six, and McNugget will definitely be getting there soon, hopefully with the middle six gaining Protas/Leason and Lappy if he stays healthy and develops well, but Oshie's already slowing down and has an injury history, same with Backy but even more so since he really hasn't looked the same since his hip surgery. Eller's getting up there in age, and Sheary's a UFA after next season, and I doubt Larsson re-signs. Snively should also slot in soon but it's still possible this year was a one-off (I doubt it but it's still possible). That leaves a lot of potential holes if our prospects don't pan out. I don't think it's a very high risk, but it has the potential of being a very high reward.

I also think Sammy's had enough chances, and he's shown no signs of his 2019 self for a while now. His play has been very bad, much worse than one bad goal a game, and I don't think he's ever going to be more than a fringe backup unless he gets a change of scenery.

    Yeah we're definitely set:

    Ovi-Kuz-someone (hoping Nichushkin)
    Mantha-McM-Wilson
    Snively-Backy-Oshie
    Shear-Dowd-Hath

That's a nasty ass forward group. Zacha doesn't really add anything there. He's a fine player but if you're moving Sammy you better get a good top 6 player for him. His ceiling is too high. He literally has all the toughest part of the game down (brain, positioning, athleticism) and is inconsistent on the smallest things (tightening the body, screens, rebounds). Just tell him this is his last chance and tell him to work on the basics hardcore over the summer. If he fixes that you have a top 5 goalie in the league. If he sucks again next season then move him out for Zacha type player.
