Tyler Johnson does not have positive value with that contract

COL declines easily.
T Johnson has had 3 consecutive declining seasons and that contracts nearing cap dump territory.
Mitchell wont be an impact player for 2-3 years and the TBL 1st is pretty much a 2nd

Not sure I see why Boston does this.

Kubalik has a $4 million QO and not an upgrade over DeBrusk.

Assuming he signed his QO the cap is a wash between he and DeBrusk, which means Boston is taking on $5.5 million in cap space for Toews. Problem is Boston only has $4.5 million in space and still needs to re-sign Bergeron as well as fill out two more spots on the roster.

Lets say Bergeron would be willing to re-sign for $5.5 million (same as what Toews hits would be), the question becomes would Boston rather have Bergeron/DeBrusk or Toews/Kubalik. Safe to say the Bruins would rather have Bergeron/DeBrusk.

Doesn't work for the hawks either. No reason to trade the captain if his value is in the toilet. Better off saving face and letting him retire or walk in free agency

I think he has value at 50% retained, just not to Boston.

BOS move isn't good for CHI and the COL move isn't good for them.
