I'm shocked that people think Fiala is likey to be traded. I can't imagine why they'd want to trade him, he's a bona fide star in the league imo.

It's not because Fiala isn't doing good enough, it's because of Wild's circumstance.

They're f*cked with cap, and Fiala wants big money.

Count 1+1 and you have a potential trade asset right there.

I can’t see Fiala taking less than $8m, but we’ll see.

Agree but I don't think it's impossible to fit him in. I think it comes down to choosing between Fiala or Dumba and Fleury (and probably Greenway in the future). That's an incredibly easy choice, especially when we have Addison, Wallstedt, and a plethora of winger prospects in the pipeline.

I think Guerin can point to Nylander's contract as a comp. But with the way he's playing Fiala should definitely ask for $8M AAV.

Detroit does not need a RHD, so unless they make a separate deal that moves out Hronek, this deal makes zero sense for Detroit.

I sure hope BG can use a contract like Landeskog and try to sign him for close to that 7 million amount to stay with a competitive team. Otherwise there are other recent comparable like Andrei Svechnikov or Kyle Conner that I think are pretty good comps. I think he might want to bet on himself again and take a shorter 3 year deal to prove he is a top winger in the league where he gets another bite at a mega contract at 28 years old when the Wild have a lot more cap space if he really did want to stay in MN.

The trouble with the scenario is in three more years, the Wild will be having (hopefully) more RFAs to sign and maybe not as much cap for a UFA Fiala. No, I gotta think Fiala wants his big contract now. There aren't too many teams that can afford a Fiala contract without sending cap back t the Wild. Fiala for good futures, might be the best deal Minni can do. Yea, it's not "on ice" value and may never be, but it's that's the situations for teams in a cap and cap strapped league.
IMO, the best trade value the Wild will get will be with a trade with Ottawa. Choices of futures from Ottawa who wouldn't mind trading a few for an expensive impact player.

Detroit passes, Dumba only makes sense if Yzerman deals Filip Hronek. And it would've to depend on Dumba's asking price.

Ideally I'd like them to sign him long term, but doubt his cap him could be fit in. Going shorter term might be low enough and I'd rather have him for 3 more years now if they can fit in his cap hit and try to resign him or move other players to resign him when he's coming up to UFA. If he does get traded he should bring a great return.

That was 4 years ago though, and Nylander wasn't a 30+ goal-scorer when he signed. He had back to back 61 point seasons-- whereas Fiala had 40 in 50 last year and 84 (33 goals) in 79 right now. I think that gives him a good amount more leverage here.

I would trade 2 Dumbas, 2 Greenways, and 2 MAFs if that’s whst it would take to keep Fiala! You just don’t trade players who can flat-out put a team on his back and win a game with!!
