He grew up 2.5 hours away from the Devils and right across the river from Philly. Saying "its his hometown state" is like saying people from Gatineau should cheer for the Habs instead of the Sens (which fyi is the exact same distance away for both teams respectively).

Also how does Jersey have cap space? Hughes is eating almost the entirety of Subban's cap hit and Bratt is getting a massive raise. Like pretty much everyone but Anaheim they would have to make quite a few roster changes to add him but they need to figure out their goaltending first

Just my opinion but a like the looks of the Jersey team better than Flyers for the next seven years. Everything else being equal, Jersey looks appealing.
I don't see Calgary being able to resign Gaudreau despite the eight year contract. He's given all he can with Calgary, and unless they make the Cup final...time to move on.

Just did a mock up with him going to Philly, I agree, roster wise i think NJ looks more appealing as well.

Nash could actually afford it, but they wont because their owner is cheap. They do need a top 4 RHD man tho.

So you think they can add two $8m+ players (Klingberg + Forsberg) and then re-sign Fabbro, Carrier, and Jeannot the following season? I don't.

Has Calgary not given him everything too? He never showed up to the draft because he didn't think he would be picked. Calgary gave him his dream and both him and his family are very outspoken about how grateful they are

It is a really good one. Similar distance. Similar drive. Similar situation. That said Ottawa is a much more charming city than Philly.

The more i think about it i think the Nashville org is too smart to pay that for Klingberg. I think there will be a team that pays $8mill for Klingberg, but you're right, it wont be Nash.

Agreed, its not likely. But on his podcast Friedman recently talked about how the Ducks could make a big splash this free agency if they wanted to keep some of their Important vets who arent really interested in sticking around for a full rebuild(mainly Gibson). Malkin is older but is still playing at a point per game pace and he could be great leadership wise for 2 or 3 yrs. Also.... The Ducks have a ton of cap space.

If they go for a bit UFA, they should go for someone like Forsberg. Geno simply doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team. And the Ducks have some good leaders already and a few of the young players (Zegras, Drysdale, McTavish) could become great leaders as well (+Terry who already is a leader). He won't keep up the PPG pace forever and once the Ducks can actually compete, Geno will have declined quite a bit. They have a lot of cap space, yes. But that's exactly what they should have considering their young core players will only get contracts in 2023 (Zegras, Drysdale, Terry). I don't see why they'd reduce that cap space by $8M and put themselves in a worse cap situation than before just to sign someone who want have a huge impact once the team is a true competitor.
