I think they go with a young coach somewhat new to the NHL. Or Claude Julien.

I dont see Julien on rebuild.. If he's younger ok.. but not a fit really.. IMO.. Heard ton of names overseas even ex Wings like larionov/fedorov..gronberg..Lambert from nyi....ahl crunch coach...plus the usual names

Lambert might be solid.

I'd go with Lambert. He's paid his dues and is ready for an NHL head coaching job.

I'd love to see Gronberg on the staff, don't know if he would take an assistant's job or if it would have to be a head coach.
I could see DeKeyser retiring into an assistant coach's job too.

Lambert is friends with Yzerman and has paid his dues.

Would lo e Barry Trotz but doubtful he leave Islanders

Please NO retreads. Wings needs a coach that preaches 5 man hockey, skating, passing( (this team sucks there) and not to stand around. Under Blashill they never fore checked or at least not consistently.

Interesting that Tanguay was not let go.

The only retread I like the idea of, is Paul Maurice, but from everything I've read, he has no intention of returning behind the bench anytime soon.

Gromberg is intriguing, but import coaches have NOT worked out well in the NHL in the past.

Lambert seems like a solid choice, but if Yzerman was going to hire him, I feel like he would have just done it last season.

The list of coaches I want NOTHING to do with is long, but most notable are Torts and Quenville. Even the mention of either of them being options for this job make me puke in my mouth.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Yzerman ends up hiring someone few of us are even talking about like Kirk Muller, Rocky Thompson or Spencer Carbery.

Yzerman has hired two coaches. Boucher and Cooper. Both had 0 games of NHL coach experience at the time. I would suspect we see another guy with limited NHL experience.

As an Islanders fan, I'd hate to lose Lane Lambert but I could see him being an excellent coach for a team like Detroit, but honestly would be happy for what seems like a good dude getting a shot at the top job.
