Detroit declines. We're past the cap dump accrual stage of the rebuild and have zero interest in Poolman.

What's the rationale behind signing Forsberg if the team does trade Miller? There are other cheaper options that can replace him if he is moved. Also, Forsberg's contract seems to be an albratross.

If they did that, It'd be like Miller 2.0, except with 7 years

Miller would want term on his FA deal at age 30. You get Forsberg now (age 28). You still need to find a way to (on the aggregate) replace his offense. I figure by trading Miller away and signing Forsberg, the team will recover some of the offense. I figure with better puck movers on the backend (Schneider, Rathbone and a full season of Dermott), that should also help offset his loss. Am fine with exploring cheaper options, but need quality - not retreads - and do not want to sacrifice picks the team can't afford to lose via an improbable off sheet.

You might not have a choice. Vancouver is offering VGK the chance to retain Smith by putting Ferland on LTIR to start the season. His $3.5M fits within the ability to exceed the cap during the offseason. VAN also adds the '23 pick to offset the loss of Dadanov, who I believe the Knights will still want to move on from so they can resign more important younger pieces in Howden and Hague. They can't keep all three of their RFAs (4 if you include Kolesar). I think Dallas will take a step back next year, so it should be a higher 4th. It also fits the realm of offers made in the past of alleviate cap concerns.

We'll see what happens after this Playoffs. Miller scored 99 points on a fringe Playoff team playing multiple roles. I could see the Rangers resigning him.

Rangers have cap issues this season and in the future. Resigning Miller would be difficult. Boston and Columbus might be a good place for Miller long term, but no reason why they trade for him this season.

So just a quick question, NYR have roughly 10-12m in cap for the 22/23 season. They need to resign at least one of Copp/Strome, Kakko, while also replacing Vatrano, Rooney and Georgiev. The following year, they need to resign Lafreniere, K'Andre Miller, Chytil and Zac Jones while also replacing Reaves.

Where are the NYR going to get the 8m+ that JTM want's the following year? TBH as good as JTM has been this season, I don't see many suitors looking/able to give a 30 year old a 7-8 year contract for 8m+ mainly because of the COVID cap issue.

Detroit passes on Poolman, And Filip Forsberg on the open market is going to command $9,500,000 x 7 years. He takes that from Nashville not Vancouver.
