Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Fiala, Kevin [RFA Rights]
MIN
  1. Kuokkanen, Janne
  2. Walsh, Reilly
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Russo thinks that Fiala is all but traded, come the end of the year, and it could happen during the draft. With NJ being open about wanting to add up front, and Russo thinking we're a team to look out for, i think this makes too much sense.
2.
BOS
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Mike Reilly feels like an odd man out in Boston, NJ could use a PK Subban replacement
3.
NJD
  1. Hague, Nicolas [RFA Rights]
  2. Lehner, Robin
Additional Details:
Lehner seems all but out, in Vegas, i also dont see how vegas can afford to pay Hague, and would fit NJs system like a glove.
VGK
  1. Blackwood, Mackenzie
  2. 2022 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
change of scenery for Mack
4.
NJD
  1. Driedger, Chris
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (SEA)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (SEA)
SEA
  1. Tatar, Tomas
  2. Zacha, Pavel [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Change of scenery for Zacha + Seattle takes a chance on proven top 9 scoring option, Tatar. NJ gets another goalie
5.
NJD
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
Garland seems like its gonna be one and done in Vancouver
VAN
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. Smith, Ty
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Vancouver previously linked to smith.. + AJ who will fill in nicely for Garland at a cheaper price

Because OP wants to get him in a trade at half his market value

Minnesota is getting a top-5 pick for a guy without a contract. How are they getting robbed?

He has a contract in the OP. It's 7x7 and it's a steal for what he provides. That's how.

Yeah I mean I’m assuming he’s gonna sign a contract if he gets traded

He's getting a contract though, it's right there in free agent signings.

Yeah still, top 5 pick plus a couple little middling prospects is good value

They can trade for his rights and then sign him, that is in fact a thing. A top 5 pick plus Walsh is a steal for Minny for a guy they afford to keep.

Does Fiala get the same offer in MIN as he would in NJD or anywhere else?

If yes, then you can charge the full price on 7-years.
If no, then trade price likely gets discounted.

(I don't make the rules...its just been the norm in NHL for a while)

There are two scenarios.

1) Fiala signs a team friendly discount to stay in Minnesota because he likes it here. Wants to continue to win here with his current teammates, whom he knows well and already has chemistry with. And because he's wanted a long-term contract for the last 4 years.

No guarantee he does that anywhere else and asks full price from whomever he's traded to. Reasonably, of course.

2) He gets the same offer around this asking price and he takes it. We move out Dumba and one of Kulikov/Jost/Talbot to roughly clear out $8M+, giving us $16M to resign Fiala and around $8M left afterwords to fill out the rest of the roster.

Great - then I think you'd expect other teams to pay the full 7y price when one of those two things happen (a) he signs or (b) MIN deals Dumba.

Until then, it will be a hard sell.

If he's traded, it's because the team acquiring him either firmly believes or knows that he'll sign long-term. Or they're not wasting the assets it would take in any attempt for trading for him. GM's aren't that stupid.

Until then, it's strictly your and my personal opinions.
