Seattle would probably rather keep Tanev and sell him later for picks

Tanev isn't going to want to stay if the team isn't competitive, and exactly WHEN is later?

Yes, absolutely. OEL would be the highest paid Islander and wouldn't even be their 2nd best defenseman... probably not even their 3rd best. On top of that, this guts their center depth.

Yeah, we're not moving Pageau and Cizikas for OEL. That guts our center depth and gives us a huge contract (even though I'm a big fan of OEL).

It'd have to be around Bailey and I honestly think a plus should be coming from VAN.

Marino, Pettersson, Kapanen, Blomqvist, 2nd for Miller, Myers (-$1.5)

More realistic than many Miller deals posted on here. While might need tweak or two this is definitely a continued conversation.

If the isles accepted that there would be a firestorm of Lou's office. No chance

If Bailey is coming back, the Canucks might be willing to retain 1.26M per season on OEL's salary to make the deal work, but if the Canucks don't retain any salary, they'll add no more than a 2nd round pick as a sweetener

Maybe when he has two years left, trade him with retention to maybe get a 2nd rounder back or something like that. Seattles playoff window is not going to be for years, so they probably want picks and prospects rather than a 27 yr old 3rd liner who will be past his prime when they are competitive. Tanev and Dickinson are basically the exact same player so this trade doesn't make sense.

That seems fair. Bailey for OEL ($1.26M more retained - making it a $6M cap hit) or Bailey for OEL (no retention) and a 2nd.

I would do either of those.

EDIT: Eh, never mind. Even though it'd make our defense better it makes our cap situation a lot worse.

So take the option where the Canucks retain salary
