Trading our stud young d man and one of our best prospects in exchange for cap relief, a rental veteran goalie, a more physical Justin Holl, and spare parts is not a good use of our assets whatsoever

why? trade fills all of our biggest needs. taking on mrazek and holl is annoying but it’d be worth it for sandin (the exact type of player we really need) and knies

First off it isn’t “our” since I’m guessing you don’t play or work in the front office. Secondly the Isles are giving up 4 valuable assets and in return they get Rasmus Sandin, Mathew Knies and the worst goalie in the league. It’s a hard no from my perspective.

They aren’t getting Holl in this proposal. Might be time for Isles fans to admit this team isn’t close to competing for a cup. Anyone who would accept a trade offer like this seems not only desperate, but incredibly ignorant of where this organization is at currently.

I would trade Varly for Mrazek if I got Sandin in a 2 for 1 deal. I would have no interest in giving up Bellows Salo and Mayfield in the deal. It’s a garbage trade proposal where the Isles would be swapping several valuable trade chips for bad salary. Can’t see a world where I think Rasmus Sandin is worth all of that.

i agree, we’re not close right now. but getting two high quality prospects/young players would go a long way in making sure we actually got to that spot, either through a rebuild or staying competitive. idk why i thought holl was in here lmao that was a misread. but regardless, salo and bellows are two guys that imo knies and sandin are immediate upgrades on.

if you put mayfield and varlamov’s collective value at about the manson/fleury trades this year, that’s approx two secound rounders and a mid prospect. you’d like to see an extra pick in here because of mrazek but i’d argue sandin + knies is more valuable by a fair bit than two seconds + a mid prospect.

as far as organizational needs, dude, you don’t need to work in the org to see the biggest need is a puckmover for the left side. lou has said so himself that the team needs more offense from the back end.

IMO the leafs issue isnt anything else besides toughness/hard to play against. They need guys that can ware down others in playoffs. They need a Power forwrd top 6. Wilson is the dream pickup. 3rd line of Kampf, Engvall, Kase can stay and then need to big, mean, hard to play against guys with blackwell. And no not clifford or simmonds, 2 guys that can play hockey still. Aston Reese, Accari etc. There D isnt the issue imo, trading all those assest for mayfield and bellows isnt upgrading at all imo

I wouldn’t move Salo and Bellows if I’m moving Mayfield and Varlamov. That’s all I’m saying. Taking on Mrazek is a big ask.

Canes don’t need nor want Holl, since they have cheaper and better call ups. And the only way I see Kerfoot playing for the Canes is if Nino leaves, at which point I see the Canes then looking at Nichushkin to replace Nino.

Bc in terms of value its a terrible deal. Varlamov with retention, the minimum for that has to be a pick in the 30s. Mrazek is making 3.8 for 2 more years and posted an .888 sv%. Hes a pure cap dump and for 2 years 7.6m that would take a top 50 pick. Clifford is another johnston and martin so hes completely useless in a trade to NYI. Salo is a solid prospect who looked good when he played and with trotz out he should play a lot more. Bellows was ok (imo worth a 3rd if someone wants to take a flyer on him). Mayfield at the TDL would be worth around a 1st and a 3rd (same as chiarot and savard), so it doesnt make sense to move him in the summer, especially bc hes really cheap. Now i really like sandin and knies looked good but they are not worth all of that i mean come on.

Canes pass. Holl isn't an NHL level player. Carolina still have Pesce, DeAngelo, and Bear all with team control.

Kerfoot might be a nice add, but closer to the start of the season when the dust has settled around all the free agents.
