A Chychrun trade that wont happen

Created by: champYINZ412
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2022
Published: May 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just a little experiment to see if I could find a way to get Chychrun on the Pens. I think this is the best the Pens could offer. 2 1sts, a prospect, and a roster player. I have a hard time imagining this doesn't get beat. Someone will offer a better roster player than Heinen and a better prospect than Poulin.

Would be a pretty good team if it happened though lol

Sure, he plays 20+ minutes a night on a playoff team and hasn't had a negative +/- in the last 4 seasons but he's a bottom pair D-man.

It's not even for a 1st it's trading down from a 1st to a 3rd.

Ben Chiarot was traded for a 1st, 4th, and a prospect

I'd be willing to remove the 5th or Smith, but I don't think the Pens would move off of a 3rd.

We’d give you a 3rd for him
But we aren’t gonna trade down from a 1st to a 3rd
We wouldn’t even trade down from a 1st to a 2nd for him imo

Dumoulin would be a guy that it would be nice to have,
but not a guy we “have to have”
So that limits what we’d give up for him
Plus, he’s basically a rental with only 1 year left on his deal
There’s just zero chance we’d give up a 1st to get a guy that won’t be here long term

I'll take 5th and McIsaac. I like McIsaac because he'll help this group sooner than the 3rd would and he's still waivers exempt.

We have Dahlin & Owen Power as our top4 LDs
Maybe u should know the roster that you’re trying to trade him to, that way u can understand it from the other teams’ perspective instead of just saying, “But MTL got….”

Yeah, at that point I just don't think there's a deal there. Even if the Sabres would trade from a late 1st to an early 2nd I don't think a deal happens because I can't see that being acceptable from the Pens side.

He has 1yr left on his contract, you can keep Detroit's pick, and change Florida's 1st into Vegas's 2nd in 23

Maybe u guys look elsewhere then
As a rental, and with Dahlin & Power ahead of him on the left side, we just aren’t giving up Chiarot type assets for him

You have the wrong team if you’re trying to maximize his value

Marcus Pettersson isn't worth more than Smith and a 3rd round pick, The 5th round pick is very excessive.

Was under the impression Dahlin played on the right a lot despite being LH. He's usually on the right with Bryson/Samuuelsson/Butcher right? I know they're looking for a veteran D-man, but if I'm mistaken I apologize.

Don't really get the dig about not knowing the roster. The original complaint wasn't about lack of fit for Buffalo, it was about Dumo being garbage. That is what I was replying to. Just because Buffalo doesn't have a need for him doesn't make him worth less, it just means he doesn't get traded to Buffalo.

There is literally nothing Buffalo need less than a LD, thats why hes 3rd pair. And he wont be riding Letangs coat tails in Buffalo either

Dahlin played exactly 8 games on the right side
And only with Samuelsson on his pair
It’s far from certain that’s how it’ll continue- it’s just an option we may continue to explore & see how it goes

So again, you don’t know the roster

Regardless of what side Dahlin plays in the future,
we are looking to stabilize our young defense,
not bring in a rental that we’ll have to replace in a year or less

And i didn’t say Dumoulin was worthless
He just isn’t worth a lot to us
So again,
if you’re looking for maximum value for Dumoulin,
we aren’t the team

agreed.
miller is a rental why would pit trade a controllable young RHD with loads of upside, an underperforming middle-6 winger, and a 1st for 1 year of a top-6 winger...
I love miller but at a cheaper price

If you are selling a left d, and you are trying to sell to buffalo, it better be super cheap- like a guy that can play, but you are willing to move him for a mid round pick, just to clear a 3-4 million dollar salary off your books. Right d is probably a different story.

It’s a pretty clear case where the guy who made this ACGM just doesn’t know our team and what we’re looking for
If we were to acquire Dumoulin, it would be for the 3rd pair
Not that he’s a “3rd pair quality” guy
But he’d still be on our 3rd pair bc of the way we are setting up the rest of our lineup

And no matter how good the guy may be….
U don’t trade a 1st for your 3rd pair LD
And especially not for a guy who will play on your 3rd pair AND would likely be a rental for us

All he’s thinking about is what Chiarot got
Sorry Pens fan…. but that just doesn’t matter to us at all
