Not sure how Calgary solves their cap problems. This deal essentially breaks down to Monahan 1/2 retained in return for Mrazek and 2 midround picks. Calgary's cap is higher than it was before with the same amount of players (Mrazek's cap hit more than the portion of cap inherited by Toronto for Monahan).

So the Ducks take on Lucic, Mrazek and Monahan, and pass on Monahan after retaining 50%, and get two future seconds and a third? Anaheim, a team which operates on an internal cap significantly lower than the NHL cap, takes on $12.2375 million in additional cap for two seconds and a third?!? I don't think so.

Look at the Ondrej Kase/David Backes trade to see what kind of cap dump trade Anaheim would make involving two seasons of Mrazek's cap hit and $1 million more expensive actual compensation. That's a first right there, without reference to Lucic or Monahan, but you'd get Max Jones or Sam Steel on the way back.

Hawks pass. Lafferty looked well in the energy role he had with us late in the season, basically stepping into the shoes Hagel left. He might be poised for a breakout year and we have no need for Holl
