Created by: CaneKO
Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 22, 2022
Published: Jun. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Nichushkin, very good defensively, has finally found his offensive game and makes our top line bigger/tougher; could have good chemistry with Svechnikov.
Overpaid and injury prone Martinook is traded to Wild (with Sellgren as sweetener) for tough RFA D-man Middleton to replace Cole. Aho gets promoted to Assistant Captain.
Re-signing Niederreiter solidifies our 3rd line.
Gardiner is a cap dump with Bear and draft pick as sweetener.
E.Svech brings size and may inspire his younger brother get to another level.
Chicago Wolves promotions: Drury as 4C; Chatfield and Keane (secondary PP ability) as 6th D-men; Noesen as 13F. Easy on the CAP budget and motivational for prospects.
Necas gets time to up his game, adds depth and can compete with Kotkaniemi for playing time.

Minnesota declines easily. They aren't trading a 1st pairing big body dman with spurgeon for nothing pieces they don't need. Middleton is also cheap

Kind of a pointless trade for the Jets.

You could probably trade for Middleton, but you're gonna have to actually offer something that Minnesota wouldn't just laugh at

Not questioning the lack of value but Middleton is a first pairing d man? Not sure if he played first pair with wild but regardless I don’t think it’s much of an argument to say he’s not a true first pairing dman.

He was playing 1st pairing d with spurgeon since he got to Minnesota..brodin and dumba are 2nd pair and have been for years. He's probably not, but that's what he's been doing with wild

Yeah I get it. Just wanted to make sure we were on same page in terms of how good he actually is. Guys can definitely slot up when the situation makes sense, which it sounds like it does for him there.

Yep, that’s exactly what he does for us and BG loves him with Spurgeon. So he’s more valuable to us than to other teams. You’d probably have to pay top pair D price to make it worth it to us to trade him. Which no one should do because he’s not a top Dman on most other teams.

He was playing with Karlsson in San Jose. At 5 on 5, he and Karlsson were the number 2 pair in TOI according to NST even though they were only together for 34 games. The number 1 pair by TOI, Ferraro and Burns, played 63 games and played roughly double the minutes of Middleton/Karlsson. On a per GP basis it's roughly a little over a 1 shift per game difference.

If you go by ice time in MN, he was clearly on the 2nd pair. Brodin leads the Wild in TOI with Dumba following. If you look at the pairings at 5 on 5, it was a 3 minute per night difference.
