Description
Reasons to my madness

1. Philippe Myers was loaned to the Toronto Marlies halfway through last season so Toronto is familiar with him. His buyout actually creates cap space next season. Philippe Myers signs a league minimum contract because Toronto makes an effective pitch by offering a defined role and opportunity to round out his game with Toronto’s development coaches.

2. Seattle Kraken Head Coach Dave Hakstol worked with Justin Holl when he ran the Leafs defence. Holl emerged as a surprising Top 4 RHD under his tutelage and Seattle will be looking to improve after a brutal start last year. In Toronto’s perspective this trade gives them Donskoi who had a bad year in Seattle but has played well with great players during his time in Colorado. Toronto pays extra to get a retention.

3. Leafs do the unthinkable and keep Petr Mrazek and resign Jack Campbell- the hope being that a new goaltending coach helps return Mrazek’s game or makes him a more valuable player to trade during the season- Toronto just rid themselves of the Phil Kessel retention and I highly doubt they want to buyout or trade any more picks to undo this mistake

4. Toronto Maple Leafs trade Alex Kerfoot to create cap space and recoup picks- Detroit is on the upswing and Kerfoot is a versatile player who Yzerman would value

I like the Myers idea but I doubt his willingness to sign with TOR if they also buy him out. It's a net loss for him since his contract is backloaded.

I think DET is after a C. Kerfoot is at his best at the wing of a good player, so I don't think DET has that much interest in Kerfoot.

Kraken trade is an interesting idea but I think they can net more for Donskoi if they retain half of his contract.

Detroit does not now, nor ever, want:
Kerfoot, Holl or Muzzin, regardless of cost.

they would definitely want Kerfoot if it was for a 7th round pick. You are just spewing none sense right now.

I agree Kerfoot for a 7th Yzerman takes it. Now Kerfoot for a 2nd I don't think any one does that.

Which works out Detroit doesn't need any more wingers.

Plenty of teams would. Kerf's a great middle-six player, put up 51 points last year, is super versatile, and plays a great two-way game.

He did put up 51 points on one of the best offenses in the league.

True. Still, a very solid middle-six player with top 6 upside

When a player reaches 28, top-6 "upside" doesn't matter. He's pretty much at his peak.

I meant stretches or streaks where he was a clear cut top 6 player.

He's a solid 3rd liner depending on the team he could be a 2nd liner. I wouldn't give up a 2nd for him he's never hit the 20g mark.
