If Price LTIRetires

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Price LTIRetires, then habs will switch to a hard rebuild.

Rookies with old Vets on expiring contracts - competitive but still getting caved in - a lot of cap the next year! to sign Caufield.

Use the new cap space to get cap dumps to flip and to obtain some assets - lets KH improve relation with other GM by helping them out. the by-product is that is helps us tank.

Lots of money freed up in the short term - so it will be available to sign our young core and gets some UFA in 2-3 years when the cycle is over

The part I like is Vegas trades him for 4 years of LTIR hell instead of to Ottawa for a 2nd rd pick. If that trade was available Vegas takes it.

Florida knows Hoffman. Which is the reason they didn't offer him a contract after he scored 65 goals in two years. They KNOW Hoffman.

There is no such thing as LTIR retires. Either Price retires, and leaves 31m salary so he won't get paid.....or he goes on LTIR at least for now. And if he goes on LTIR, he has to make an effort to get back into be medically fit in the future. Sorry placing a player on LTIR isn't a get outta jail loophole for 10.5m X 4 in cap.

I think they wanted his contract to use the LTIR money no?

he means like Weber (and few players before him )he is place on LTIR but everyone know he is retired, Vegas already said he(Weber) will never wear their uniform .
but i would prefer MTL terminated the contract like San Jose did with Kane. if it work for one team it supose to work for every team.
and if it doesn't work it means San Jose have cheat and the ligue let it go because they are supose to have penality .

No such thing as LTIR money. Cap still 82.5 mil. Weber just cancels himself out and makes it more difficult for Vegas to make trades for players.

one other point , if i remember correctly . no insurrance company want to take Price contract so it's MTL Canadien that pay him (on the LTIR or not) so he just have to retired and Molson hired him with his company like that his cap will not be add here. Molson still pay Price so Price is happy and MTL doesn't have his contract so MTL is happy and invest that money elsewhere.

OK Price retires. Then the Habs have about 2.25m for four years in cap hit for recapture penalties due to the front loading of his contract.

Players and teams just can't put themselves on LTIR and they certainly can''t "forever". Players have to make an effort to keep try to medically fit to play in order to stay on LTIR.

Robidas? Signed a three year contract with the Leafs, played one year. broken his leg in year two. Year three was still on LTIR year three. Clarkson was never on LTIR as a Leaf but he was on LTIR for approximately two full years after he was traded buy the Leafs. Yes some players have career ending conditions that put them on LTIR "forever". Gee, Price played at the end of the season with the Habs. Do you really think he not going to be fit for four straight years?
Why didn't you mention Robert Luongo? He was injured and was LTIR for part of a season with Florida. But he decided to retire and not go LTIR because he didn't want to go through the NHL and insurance protocol of their " get to back work plan". As a result, Vancouver paid recapture penalties for Luongo retired when Vancouver front loaded his contract.

OK then just terminate the contract like San Jose did with Kane
SJ had no valide reason other then they don't want him anymore and Kane did not want his contract terminated and SJ have no penalities.

San Jose believe they had a reason to terminate Kane (it's under appeal). Wasn't for the gambling incident but because Kane did not adhere his conditions of reinstatement

Sorry bud, every teams has players with poor contracts. Their contracts just can't be terminated cause folks want to make fantasy rosters.

Price knee might never fully recover - It gets swollen so bad he can't walk after a game. While he would want to comeback... a knee is kinda essential for any hockey player.

I believe cap recapture are only for contract that were more than 8 years long no?

Recapture happens when a player retires.......but not placed on LTIR. Recapture happens only if the contract was front loaded with $$$$$, which is bigger than AAV.

Hey, I'm not saying Price is ineligible for LTIR....but being put on LTIR in October 2022, doesn't guarantee he will meet the LTIR requirement s for more years.

Yeah - I guess the future will tell - I truly hopes he'll be OK - he's a hell of a hockey player and he deserves a better ending.
