Then you truly don't understand the cap hell MTL is in right now, if he can get Petry, Hoffman, Byron and Armia all off the books while only retaining 2.75 mil and gaining picks/prospects it would be an absolute win for the team.

If Devils were acquiring Hoffman, I am not sure they would pay more for salary retention. Would just assume later pick with full contract moved.

Since Petry's contract is too high but Hugues doesn't want to retain on it, a good solution is to include Khudobin's contract in the trade.

Same 3.3M dead money, but on 1 year only instead of spreading retention on 3 years.

DAL save money right away, MTL save capspace after next season. Makes sense.

Congrats for at least getting the return as 2023 and 2024 picks. These 2022 pick returns make no sense. They have 14 picks this draft. You know right away who did their research with the Petry deals when a return is in a draft that they want to move picks to later years and already started doing it at the TDL
