Description

Starting to wonder if Fitz is leaning to Nemec to plan for the exit of Graves & Severson. A future pairing of Hughes & Nemec must be tempting (as soon as 23/24?). Assuming they can lock up Siegenthaler long term to play next to Hamilton, NJ could have a nice D core (after some near term pain waiting on the prospects to grow). Third pair would be some mix of the many other young D they have in the organization.

In this scenario, Nemec is drafted & Severson gets traded for a wing, as the alternative to drafting Slafkovsky or Cooley. There is also Gritsyuk potentially arriving after next season. This could develop into a strong three line rotation in NJ.

GK is still a dumpster fire ...

The D without Severson & poor GK play could get Fitz fired, so this scenario seems long odds.

Fiala is going to want more than that. If not Minny could probably re-sign him. They also don't need Severson

Zacha doesn't do anything for Edmonton, they may have a good amount of interest in Blackwood though. Puljujarvi gets paid more too, closer to 4M at that term

Bernier is probably healthy by next year

Nemec is the right choice. Love the kid.

Oilers reject. Cant afford Zacha 3M qualifying offer. They are in a cap crunch, that is the only reason Jesse is being moved so this would defeat the purpose of moving Puljujarvi. He will be traded for futures, most likely. The Oilers draft capital needs to be bolstered, Jesse is their one chip to do it. Jesse has also become a fan favorite. Bison King? Escaping the Edmonton media is funny. The media here isnt Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver like what? You obviously have no clue what is happening with the Oilers.

Nemec looks he's pulling away from Jiricek. Seattle would probably take Nemec after his World Championship showing with 1 goal and 5 assists playing big minutes as young D is much like Owen Power for team Canada in 2021 World's

I'm very low on Nemec, I don't trust his fancies since he's such an edge case. I'd take Jiricek or trade down if we really wanted a defenseman.

8x8 sounds a bit much for a wing. I used Dobber estimates, which can be misleading as its pure stats based, but they tend to be in the ballpark historically. Only 14 wings in the entire league made over $8 last year. For his sake, I hope you're right, but 6 / maybe 6.5 seems more realistic. Thanks for the post

Idk, what would Fiala fetch in your estimation? Severson is a very effective RD, which are in short supply. Wasn't intended to be a low ball offer.... however, I do admit, I did not consider that the Wild may not be in need of another defenseman.
