Description
I know this is a lot of players, but I was just having some fun with it. Some of these are obviously more realistic than others. Let me know which one of these you would want or not want if you are a pens fan, or give me your trade offer if you are a fan of one Of these teams!

Cheers

This one isn’t realistic but he is just one of my favourite players and he would be godly playing with Sid. I suppose the scenario would be that contract extensions go horribly in Columbus and Pitt sees him as a player they can build around.

Olofsson for Marino. Picks will even the trade, but it would be 3rd or lower going one of the ways.

I think the third would be on buffalos side in that deal, Marino is the much safer option. Olofsons 5v5 analytics are a bit troubling and that is a risk but the hope would be that playing with elite talent would help them improve

Most likely Sabres will be adding, but 3rd rnd picks is nothing that any team would kill the deal.

Yea but playing with Geno/Trocheck/Miller and Rakell or even top line minutes with Sid could bring out a monster in Olofsson’s game.

I would put him with Sid and Jake. He could fs score 30+ goals with his shooting ability

You don’t trade for a winger who you hope will make the trade fair value if he performs alongside your superstar talent… trading fair value for Buffalos version of olofson is just that… how many times have we all said “yeah this player will be so good when playing with Sid or geno” how many times has it actually worked out?

Yes
Rakell (small sample size but yeah)
Kessel (kinda a lil with geno)
Hornqvist (for a while)

No
Kapanen
Pearson
Zucker
McCann
Perron
Iginla

I’m just saying it’s hit or miss
Don’t overpay in the hopes a player gets better.

Seravalli said the price for Crouse is a 1st + (young) roster player. Our beat writer said he isn't on the trade block. I'm pretty confident we are signing him after the draft and FA is over.

I am obviously biased but I would call Pitt a Contender. They dominated the rangers and looked poised to go on a run if Jarry were healthy. That could change with a poor off season but Pitt is def a team that would play meaningful hockey and would have a chance at the cup.

We may have different definitions for “contenders” but I consider that at any team with a realistic chance at winning the cup.

That’s fair. He may be more on the unrealistic since az doesnt want to trade him. I wouldn’t make the trade you listed for him so it’s all good. We could just draft Mcgroarty who I feel will become a similar type player.

Hey I mean it really would depend on his definition. I was thinking more the teams that are already at that tier and likely to stay there for a while like Florida Colorado and Tamp

I kinda look at it like three tiers:

Upper echelon contenders/favourites: basically just Tampa, Colorado Florida

Lower echelon contenders: Toronto, Pitt, Wild ect

Dark horses/no chance at winning: Dallas and Nashville ect

The way I think about it tier 1 you are not surprised at all of they win, tier 2 you are a bit surprised but not shocked if they win, tier 3 you are shocked if they win

You don't trade for Oloffson and put in line with Crosby and hope for the best. It's not like that. Olofsson looked good, with Tage Thompson centering his line. Imagine how better his stats sheet would be with Crosby. You added pure scorer to line with HOF center. He is available only because Sabres are getting younger players to play his minutes. He is not getting pushed out by coaching stuff or GM based on, on ice perfomance. Sabres have young winger coming into NHL, and since Skinner cannot be moved, VO is first guy out.
But he can play 3rd line minutes with being extra PP guy as well. If Penguins are looking for pure scorer for 4 mil cap hit, VO is their guy.

Sabres need RHD badly. Marino fits. VO + 2nd 2023 (VGK) for Marino could be the deal, if Pitt is looking for improved scoring.

I’m not questioning your logic
But I’ve heard this again and again… trading for wingers for Sid usually doesn’t work out 😂
Also tbh Sid is now playing with the best wingers ever minus Kunitz maybe with guentzel and rusty… so I think he’s content

I don’t think many of the players that we have brought in to play with sid (use kasperi Kapanen or Jason zucker as examples) have had olofsons shooting ability. If you watch all of his goals from this past season on YouTube, a strong majority of them are him beating goalies clean - often from distance. That is a definable skill which won’t go away, and it is easy to see how that skill would pair well with Crosby. You can count one one hand the amount of players that have Crosby’s level of vision/hockey iq/passing ability in the history of the sport on one hand. Besides Wayne Gretzky I can’t think of anyone who I would put above sid in that regard. On that basis I don’t think it is a stretch to think that if you combine the shooting ability of olofson with the shot creating ability of Crosby it would work out. Plus olofson is still a young player going into only his 4th NHL season so he still has time to mature, and he was on pace for over 50 points over 82 games last year.

Isn't Guentzel or Rust ready to have "their own line" ? Stacking all the talent on one line, shouldn't be way to go.

Depends on what happens with Geno to be honest
I don’t think rust or guentzel could carry a line with scrubs like Sid can but I could see one of them (prob rust) moving to help geno or our new 2C…
Tbh Sullivan simply won’t separate Sid and guentzel and now rust has become a mainstay there…
If geno comes back it will prob be the same old same old with a Heinen or Rodrigues or kapanen or zucker with geno next year
