Isles would be looking to move Varly’s full salary. Retaining half of his salary is ridiculous given the fact the isles r gonna get a glorified second round pick for their cap troubles lol.

I’m really interested to see what the Avs do in net next season. I’d be bummed if the Avs traded another 1st for a one year goalie rental. That said, the big fish in free agency are Kuemper, Campbell, Husso, and maybe Fleury. Hopefully the Avs can get some stability in net instead of riding the goalie carousel.

I think that would be closer to fair. I'm just not a fan of acquiring Girard at all, we need to be bad next season more then we need him

agreed but it looks more and more like hughes is doing a retool. sammy g is only 24 and a good player too.

If you've listened to Hughes at all or looked at the moves Montreal has made, then there's no way you could come to that conclusion.

i honestly dont know how you could think the opposite. 99.9% retool over rebuild. hughes wants to be competitive next season.

Out of curious, where are you getting that from? Because there have been like 5 Q&As/interviews over the past month or so where Hughes has been abundantly clear that:

1) his intention is that Montreal will be able to compete consistently in the future.
2) his focus has been and is cleaning up the cap space issue.
3) he's not focused on next season.

Between that, every trade he's made (which is not a small sample) and all the rumours coming out of Montreal, were on earth are you getting your impression from?

Montreal can't afford Girard's cap hit right now and he's not even the type of player they'd target.

just media i've picked up for the past couple months. that suggests he wants to be competitve next season.

i think we'll know one way or the other by the day after the draft.
