MALKIN SIGNS WITH LEAFS TO WIN A CUP

Created by: TML_Tika
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2022
Published: Jun. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Shanahan gets involved this summer and pushes Dubas to make some big moves to push the Leafs over the top to win a Cup by acquiring Malkin, Paul, Domi, Mott, Bear, Varlamov and then Staal.
Malkin and Varlamov incredibily motivated to show the hockey world that they are both world class hockey players and Staal proves his critics wrong by becoming a force again in the NHL.

You are right that Malkin is not signing that to stay in Pittsburg.......but will sign it to move to Toronto and win another cup while the Penguins need to rebuild.

Carolina has room for Muzzen and his veternan leadership with Jake Gardner and Bear being moved out.......Chicago of course will take Marzek as they need a goalie period and are in no hurray to compete as they are in a rebuild period.

A 50 point player with no PP time doesn't move the needle for the Islanders?

laugh Right because Toronto is so much better than Pittsburgh, Toronto hasn't won a cup in 55 years. Malkin is't signing for no crappy $5,000,000 from Toronto He'll get at least $7,500,000 x 3-4 years if not slightly more.

And FYI Nicholas Paul is close to a deal to stay with Tampa, So he's not heading to free agency.

The penguins would have already signed Malkin if he only wanted that, Toronto isn't his hometown or anything, he doesn't have any attachment to Toronto so he has no reason to take a discount, he'll probably sign in washington if not pitt.

Carolina is not taking a cap hit in muzzin, they have leadership and they're not going to pay 6M to aguy who will be a third liner for their team , there is no point in chicago taking a goalie that had a rough season for so little, no point

Malkin wants to stay in Pittsburgh and him not accepting $5M to play for the Pens has nothing to do with whatever chances he believes the Pens have. He just knows his value.

Tampa has big time Cap Issues so not convinced that Paul is not heading to free agency......He had a great playoff playing on a great hockey team but questionable career stats so not as convinced he is worth the big bucks.

Wow.....not sure i would want to do a 4 year deal for $7,500,000 per year for Malkin at his age but stranger things have happened in the NHL.

He may have an inflated perception of his true value.......He should take a home discount and stay in Pittsburg if he really wants to stay on the Penguins.

Chicago has publicly stated that they are doing a rebuild and it makes total sense to take a weaker and cheaper goalie if you are going to go through some tough years where you are trying to draft as high as possible.

Muzzen would be a second line defenceman in Carolina or any other team in the NHL.

Not really our place to decide what players think they should do. It's been well known he is willing take around $2M less than he makes no, so that's the discount. If he goes anywhere else it will be for MORE money, not less.

The Penguins are in a transition period and there seems to be alot of hockey management staff moving for other opportunities with other NHL teams since Rutherford and Allvin left and the new GM and President brought in...........I personally would love for Rutherford and Allvin to really go after and try to sign Malkin in Vancouver.

Malkin has 3 cups, and if he wants another, he's not signing with Toronto especially for that

I think Toronto has to be considered one of the favourites to win the Stanley Cup this year and especially if Malkin signs in Toronto.......He would probably also make another couple of million in endorsements playing for the Leafs.......I can see the Leafs signing Malkin as a UFA.

VAN already has money issues, so it's unlikely. I'm not sure what teams that are competitive have $7M to spend. OTT and NYR seem like teams that could make a play if he comes available.

Canucks may trade Miller or Garland which would free up money to go sign Malkin.........Canucks also have two other Russian players so Malkin could centre an entire Russian line in Vancouver.

Nope - don’t need to bring in another D man who will be on IR before half the season is completed.

They have yet to make it out of the first round, so I wouldn't put them in the favorites category. If they signed Geno? Sure, but they don't have the money.

They have been for the last 5 years and havent gotten any closer, and they're going into free agency with no solution in net and plenty of Bottom 6 and d question marks. Probably one of the worst situations roster wise Toronto has been in since taking Matthews.

I think the Tavares contract is really hurting right now........where really his money would be better allocated out into 2 or 3 players.

However, I do think Tavares will resign in Toronto when he hits the UFA at a reasonable contract price.

Dubas has been very quiet and I am anticipating a bold move by the Leafs this offseason.

Keep your oft injured, rapidly declining, supremely overpaid defenseman. Many teams have the space to take him on but none want to because it’s awful asset mgmt. you’re stuck with him. Enjoy.

in terms of their needs? yeah. kerfoot's point totals are likely to regress on a team like the islanders and if they move out varlamov they're either looking for cap space or draft assets/players in positions of need, and kerfoot doesn't really do that.
