Bernier makes more sense than Blackwood

Created by: Byrr
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2022
Published: Jul. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There's been a lot of Blackwood for Campbell's rights trades but I think Bernier makes more sense. He's been the better goalie in New Jersey and has the bigger cap hit for them to want to move. He's had injury trouble but Leafs didn't mind that with Mrazek.

I have a feeling I could keep Helm's AAV down with term but I don't want to be arguing over a 4th liner so whatever. If I could keep it down, I'd look at investing in a more established backup.

Bernier replaces Blackwood in the Campbell's rights trade. I'd like to get the Devils to retain a bit though it's not required. They need a 3rd pairing RD in a lot of their AGMs so I'm sending Holl as payment for it as well as a later round pick.

Bernier might not be healthy to play until well into the season, if at all next year.

Let's assume he can. How's the value? Is someone like Kase a better fit there than Holl? Is the retention a non-starter?

I believe Bernier will retire. His hips are done.

Bernier got Schneidered. If he was healthy the Devils wouldn't have finished so low

I don't think you'd want him...he's hurt. But want to throw in Holl for him, fine.

Bernier is done. Neither he or Blackwood is a starter.

I’d love to see Bernier go to Toronto and see the Maple Leafs get scored on 5+ times each night lmao

Leafs have had a good defense the past couple seasons and Bernier has done significantly better on bad teams than other 'top goalies' like say Gibson. I'd have faith in him.

Neither make sense as Bernier is coming off from major surgery which could really hurt his play for the remainder of that contract and Blackwood just seems to be inconsistent

If Toronto is trading for a goalie then you spend it on a guy who you know is an upgrade over Campbell

I would watch the WPG jets Closely as if PLD, Scheifele, Wheeler are gone via trade and Jets decide to rebuild then you go in and make a big offer for Hellebuyck

Time for Ducks fans to argue against the stats again like they try to do with Gibson?
