The Devils probably accept, on the following conditions:
1. They are able to acquire Vanecek
2. They are unable to sign Gaudreau
3. The 2023 1st is top 10 protected

because it doesn't make sense? Commesso is one of the few prospects Chicago has that has a ceiling of NHL regular. They're in a rebuild, not giving up their (hoped for) goalie of the future. And if they take on Mrazek's money, they will be looking for a first. Other teams are trying to shed salary, too . . . no need to take on money and actually give up more in future assets than they're getting.

Nylander is a good player and I'm not going to assume that he’ll be a two year rental but why wouldn't they trade 2OV for a pure goal scorer in DeBrincat since that fills their need better and gives them cost certainty and if ge is too much why not just draft?

From the Leafs perspective why would they trade a proven player for a big question mark (might not be NHL ready and might not live up to the potential)

Just realized that isn't 2OV so it's even worse for the Leafs. NJ probably accepts if they have the cap even if they sign Gaudreau or Forsberg

They're also getting an NHL ready D man with top 4 and 1st PP potential

-Eh, Chicago probably says yes just for Sandin. Big price to pay to dump Mrazek's deal and I think you can probably find a better deal somewhere else.

-Gonna lump the last 2 trades together because they work together - but Jersey and Anaheim both pass. Jersey has no one else to play in goal so adding Nylander just means they lose every game 6-4 now; and I don't think what you're sending Anaheim is sexy enough to get them to ask Gibson to waive (especially after he said he was happy staying in California).

Beyond that just wanted to mention that Nichushkin isn't signing that cheap - he's probably closer to $6M AAV.

Neither Ty Voit nor Mac Hollowell is an NHL player, and may never be one.

"Rebuilding" doesn't mean throwing away 5 years of goaltending on some "decent" prospects and a future first-round pick. It means acquiring youngsters who will be expected (not hoped-for) contributors when the compete window opens.
