They’re about to trade Petry which would leave only Savard and Wideman as NHL right shot d’s. Barron goes to the A one more year. How is that “good shape”

I’m very biased towards Poehling, so I don’t think I’d do the deal. But if Barrie = Poehling + 3rd, Pulju = Allen + 33 is a really poor trade for the Habs.

Edmonton is loosing this by miles. Allen is a quality back up not a starter already have skinner to play that role.
Barrie like him or not was a solid contributor during the playoffs that's two key guys going out for replacement level players. The draft picks don't justify the significant step backwards.

"Worst team in hockey trades away picks" is kinda odd, no?

Habs would be stupid to trade the 33rd pick, they said loud and clear they want to move up so they'll be better off holding on to it for now

LOL

I take from the habs fan saying we are loosing and EDM saying they are loosing that the trade is somehow pretty fair value.

I think Barrie will answer a need as a PMD on RD after the departure of Petry.

The poolparty trade is in the optic that Anderson is moved at the draft. Poolparty brings a similar toolbox than Anderson but will be around and still young when MTL is ready to compete.

He is in the quality/caphit that Oilers need and can afford. They don't have the flexibility to get a 5-6M$ starter - at 2.8M, Allen is the best Oiler can get.

Montreal is thin on the right side D, no doubt. But I would not be willing to pay for Barrie. As you have seen in my comments before, I think Edmonton has to pay to get rid of him. But I do think Montreal is ok for this year. Romanov, Schuneman, and Clague (if he comes back) can play the right side if needed. They aren't looking to compete for a playoff spot imo. I also think Barron starts this season in the NHL. But I would not be opposed to him starting in Laval to let him develop. Him and Harris.

I actually expect KH to sign some old vets at RD like Stralman ect - they explicitly said they don't want 3 rookies running the D.

No point in rushing Ghule or Barron - let them crush it in the AHL and really fine-tune their skill and abilities. Lets tank again next year- Its two great years to tank.

I would have no problem with that at all. Guys who will cost next to nothing, who can just fill the gap for this year. And if they play well enough that they force their way into the lineup, let them play. Simple.
The top 2 next year is insane. It is possible that Bedard and Michkov will be franchise players (not McDavid or Matthews, but a step below that). Another bottom two pick in 2023 would definitely set this franchise up for a long time imo.

Exactly - I want them to tank next year... and trading Petry/Anderson/Allen/Dvorak helps us do that.

Because Petry isn't likely move given how many RD are available as UFAs (and good ones), and Barron makes the team on the 3rd pairing imo.

The top UFA right-shot defencemen, per previous cap hit:

Subban, PK
Letang, Kris (he’s getting resigned)
Klingberg, John
Stralman, Anton
Manson, Josh
Shultz, Justin
Miller, Colin
Gudbranson, Erik
Braun, Justin
Stecher, Troy

Damn that’s a really deep pool, lots of potential top-pairing or high end second pairing guys on that list.

Point proven. Thanks! Because taking cap hit as a barometer of talent is what I do lol

The list I've presented to you is merely sorted by previous cap hit, it's not ranked. But if that's your big take away from this then there's no point arguing with you.

Dude I don’t even know what to think anymore. Tonight has broken my brain. If Petry gets traded great, if he doesn’t great. I can’t think anymore

Those were my thoughts too.

What started to look like a hard rebuild is now a retool. Just effin' weird on so many levels.

Still don’t know what to think about the Romy for Dach move. I stopped thinking about the Habs’ plan for the future after that one.
