Grier GM Roadmap Sign Marchment Trade Burns Get Bear Holl Puljujarvi

Created by: CheechYou

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a roadmap I'd lay out for Mike Grier to undertake if I could give a realistic presentation at what the Sharks could do this offseason given Grier's comments.

1) SIGN MARCHMENT

Falls in line with his "tenacious, highly competitive, in-your-face, fast, hard to play against" comment today.

2) TRADE BURNS

Fits the mantra of gaining a little cap flexibility while also taking that "few steps back" comment he made by parting with Burns.

3) GET BEAR HOLL PULJUJARVI

Grier still wants to compete, and the first three guys on this list are guys who are available, young, wouldn't cost the moon in terms of assets to acquire, and would help SJ compete but would probably need some time to gel together with the team and reach their potential ("a few steps back to move forward" comment). Sharks could also swap Labanc with Donskoi if they want for more cap flexibility for the following season with Meier set to hit restricted free agency (though Labanc is the superior player at this stage in both their careers). Puljujarvi can be acquired for a 3rd/2nd if arbitration with Kane ends in SJ's favor.

*Knyzhov starts off the first few games with the Barricuda and eventually replaces Megna.
** 82 games is a long season, and I see Eklund and Dahlen swapping in and out for each other in the same spot. A similar situation but more so in the context of injury in addition to midseason-struggles with the combination of EK65/Bear/Merkley/Holl.

Canes accept. Personally I'd value Bear at around a 3rd alone.

If TOR is forced into going with a 1A/1B scenario in net, I'm good with this trade.

All contracts coming off the books next year is a bonus.

I’d rather keep labanc than take Donskoi. Scored more goals in a fraction of the games Donskoi played in this year

Updated, I have that trade taken out. My thought process with that trade proposal (not my original idea, it's RobShark's) is to have the final year of Donskoi's contract expire in time for Meier's extension to save cap space. But it's also the trade here that I feel least strongly about since I'm expecting a bounce-back season for Labanc (not playing with the wrong centerman for him in Bonino anymore) and I expect Labanc to be tradable next offseason with only 1 year remaining and a strong season under his belt.

I'm in the: don't trade burns unless it's for actual significant value camp, which is admittedly a small camp, but I want to understand Dallas's point of view here. I'd rather just keep Burns, but everyone recognizes because of his connection to TX and Pavs he would be a good fit in DAL.
Burns > Klingberg for offensive D, and probably still for the remainder of Burn's contract because he's an inhuman beast who will still be doing this at 40 when his contract expires.
You're looking to sign Klingberg it's probably at something like $7.5/yr, right?
So you're saying that you won't take someone better at less cost than what you were going to sign. It doesn't make any sense, but help me understand

I'm not at all convinced he now a better all around option for Dallas nor am i convinced he'll be what he is in the next 3 seasons 6 mil is A LOT for a 38-40 yo if he were going on his 34-37 I'd be less concerned

I get the idea. Save the cap from the second year of Labancs contract. Makes sense, I just feel Labanc still has more value than Donskoi at this point and that he has a shot to rebound this season.

Burns is only going to Dallas for one of their bad F contracts benn or Seguin.
I respect Reimer to much to sentence him back to Toronto
    Bear is an overpay
Lebanc is a sell low. i think you have to hold on an hope to rebuild some value then move him at the deadline
