A trade we arent talking about

Created by: Mediumyeet
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2022
Published: Jul. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Elliot Freidman said Canucks are after a goal scorer that is tough to play against if they move Miller. And they might do something that nobody is really talking about.

In this scenario I'm assuming Nashville re-signs Forsberg and then goes all in on next year with the mcdonaugh acquisition.

Nothing Poile does would surprise me. Guy doesn't care about long term at this point, Poile would take that I'm sure.

Montreal will move up somewhere cause i dont think they'll be able to move much money. Gorton has a history of moving up. teams would be smart to call them up and acquire picks for cheap only to move down a few spots when the draft lists are so topsy turvy from team to team.

26 and 33 is too much for 17 though. you'd be looking at 26 and 62

I agree on Poile and I don't really blame him. Guy has been GM there for 25 years. He's got a star goalie and an aging core. These next 3 years could be his last shot at it.

I used a draft pick value evaluator for that MTL trade. 17 OA is given a rating of 270 points. 26+33 is a value of 300 where 26+62 is a value of 211. There's rumors that MTL has interest in DiPietro so he could be a part of this as 17 + DiPietro for 26+33.

Jeannot is untouchable. He is the face of the Preds identity.

I think Preds can be IN for Miller, but with such package:
Fabbro+Kunin+Farrance+1st.
Kunin also is tough to play against, but need a change of scenario.

Interesting idea with the Miller trade, I think Poile would be more likely to do something like that if they lost Forsberg.

As for the CAR trade I don't see Wadell seeing that trade as a one for one just because Necas is two years younger and probably expected to have a higher ceiling. Garland isn't much of an upgrade but more so a slightly more developed player who is a goal scorer instead of a playmaker like Necas. Perhaps there is a deal to be done if Wadell likes that contract but I think he would want more in return. Perhaps Necas+Bear for Garland+Hoglander or something along the lines.

I keep saying this but here it goes again

Most experts and charts have our combined picks being worth the following

33 + 62 = 20
26 + 62 = 17
26 + 33 = 10

why would Montreal move picks 26 + 33 which has a value of 10th for pick 17? They would not!

Not just that but in this particular year where teams have certain players in the first round with a 20 place rankings difference, it makes even less sense to overpay to move up. If anything teams should be paying to move down. This year will be all about how many darts you have to aim at the board. Covid completely screwed up player development.

I would do this if I was Poile. That McDonagh trade has to show that he’s trying to contend. Getting miller would do wonders to that top 6. Losing jeannot would hurt but it is what it is when you want to contend and this makes our team better

Very realistic. Most here aren't that compromising instead thinking every trade needs to be a WIN

Ya completely agree. I'm sure Canucks fans wouldn't be stoked with this return either as they're hoping for 3 pieces at least but often the best trades are ones that are painful for both teams to do.

So I used the trade pick value from this website https://soundofhockey.com/2022/06/06/examining-the-value-of-nhl-draft-picks/amp/

The value of 26 and 33 is 299 and the value of 17 is 260. So yes it's a little but off and probably more accurate for 15 OA. But hey I'm being hopeful and I'd be willing to add DiPietro into the deal which mtl has had interest in. The value of 26 + 62 is 210

It only makes sense for mtl if there is someone they specifically want that is still available at 17

I think this actually helps both teams balance out their lineup. It helps the nucks get more physical and it helps the preds get more skill up front.

Ya it helps both teams but it is painful for both teams to give up those key players. I don't expect this trade to happen but I'd be pretty content if it did.
