Definitely not getting Schneider AND getting more than what I proposed. Vancouver's biggest weakness is RHD - as we saw with the Fiala trade young RHD are worth a lot more than people think. There are probably 10-15 top young RHD prospects in the entire league. It's the most valuable position in hockey currently and Schneider could be Vancouver's answer rather than waiting for a draft pick to develop.

Rangers fans will crucify you for putting Schneider in that package

That is a great return for JT. Schneider is the player that the Canucks want, and they would pull the trigger on this deal in a heartbeat. I'm not sure the Rangers would do it though.

This creates more holes than it fills, and it only fills the 2C hole for a season. The only way it makes sense to pick up a veteran on a rental is by not giving up roster pieces to get him.

There is a lot wrong here Re: JT Miller. From the NYR point of view. J.T is a one year rental to fill the #2C. As a UFA next year he will command at lot more. The Rangers can't afford him. My target would be Andrew Copp, as long as we can get him at an acceptable price. If Andrew is headed to the slots in Vegas, then it is Sayonara. Andrew at $5.5 for 5 years, or something similar would be my offer. My criteria: 1) scoring 50 points or more, 2) better face-off man than Ryan Strome, 3) A target price of approx. $5.5M, and 4) A minimum term of three years. Both Andrew and Yanni Gourde meet these criteria. I'm looking for others as we speak. I'd find some else re: Braden Schneider. He is a long-term NYR keeper who will be moving up to #2C in the not too distant future. The NYR absolutely have to get this one right!

Fiala was an RFA who Minnesota couldn't afford to re-sign.

Miller has a year left on an excellent contract, is more talented than Fiala, is a center, and the Canucks can afford to re-sign him if they don't find a deal they like.

Miller is worth Schneider+2023 1st+ as a start of negotiations. If you are offering anything less than that, then you can leave the phone on the hook.
