Just to illustrate the sheer amount of Johnsons on the back end.

I'm 12 by the way.

The Devils should not be trading a 2nd for JTC. It doesn't hit their real needs. They need to spend that 2nd in a package for actual top 6 scoring.

I would think the 2022 pick would be needed for legit top six scoring. I went with 2023 since it will likely be more of a mid-2nd.

If Compher doesn't fit, flip him at the tdl with salary retained. And if he does fit, re-sign him. I think it's a win-win for NJ.

That said, if they are trying to use that pick for a more high end target, the your point stands. I think the value is there though.

It also stands that the Avs are in much greater need of cap room if they want to keep more important pieces. So unless there is a bidding war of teams for him, I just can't see that price being worth it.

I don't think Colorado wants to move him. In this scenario they do because he becomes a bit redundant with Meyers and White. The goal is more to get back some futures than dump salary.

I don't think you have a bad point. The Devils have more pressing needs. He'd be a good veteran to complement the young forward core in NJ though (imo). And if NJ does land a big piece for the top six, they likely send a roster player away in the package. He'd be a good replacement. Price is obviously negotiable.
