ADB Three Way
Girard is a redundancy behind Toews and Byram on the left side. Colorado clearly needs a top six forward so they pick up ADB (no extension in place, they figure it out next summer after seeing how/if Landeskog recovers).
ADB seems to have worn out his welcome in Ottawa. Holloway would be a great main piece of the return, seems to be the style of player Ottawa wants.
Edmonton needs to do something before Draisatl's either walks as a UFA or becomes an albatross contract. Holloway is unlikely to make a huge impact before then. Girard gives them a strong puck-moving defender on the left side on a reasonable contract.
Secondary pieces/draft picks might need to be added, but how is this as a general framework?

Trade for someone like Necas or Schmaltz, or sign someone like Strome. Won't be as good as Kadri in 22/23 season, but it buys time for Newhook to develop and all three of those guys can shift to wing if Newhook ascends quickly.

Thread:
Colorado Avalanche signed Valeri Nichushkin (8 Years / $6,125,000 AAV)
A lot of people commenting on this thread don't seem to understand that the player has to accept the contract, too. "I only would have given him 5 or 6 years". "Overpay by a million on AAV". Okay, cool. In either case you don't sign him, he walks to free agency and gets a massive deal somewhere else. You then end up with a bit more cap space that you can either spend on a different UFA who isn't as good as Val who will also get more money/term than you're comfortable with, you trade for a player like Val and forfeit a bunch of assets on top of absorbing the contract, or you stick to your guns on your eval and have J.T. Compher playing top 6 minutes, wasting MacKinnon's last cheap season, because every free agent gets a bigger contract than you're willing to pay.

We don't end up in cap hell if you don't give Kadri that contract. Find a slightly worse player for less money and less term.

Not arguing the merits of the trade, but pointing out that Dvorak scored at a 63 point pace in an arbitrary and favorable sample size as some impressive selling point for a top-6 forward is... not great.

Be Better Dorion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cartersNo1</b></div><div>“Be Better Dorion”? He just got the cat for less than the hawks paid for Seth Jones. He’s making up for past mistakes</div></div>
That was a great trade. But also this scenario includes dumping 2 players he acquired at a loss, on top of 2 buyouts of contracts he signed/acquired, on top of still being stuck with a redundant Del Zotto contract, which he signed.
One great move doesn't offset a plethora of bad ones, and Dorion will need to do a lot more this offseason to garner any good will around the Senators fanbase.

Nice roster for this season but good luck re-signing MacKinnon, Byram, and Newhook next year without gutting the team.

Strong 2223 roster with space for MacK extension

Girard actually plays defense; could be that it wasn't about the salary with TDA but the style.

Strong 2223 roster with space for MacK extension
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArakinSkywalker</b></div><div>I like a lot of this but it seems risky when we are in our win now mode to gamble on a 2C, especially if we move girard who would be one of our main trade pieces to land a really good 2C. We've seen our team without a true 2C and it was rough, i'd rather not go down that road again right now.</div></div>
I don't think Strome needs to repeat Kadri's season for this to be a strong roster because the third line would be extremely effective in this scenario.

I'm assuming that DeAngelo is moved in this scenario. Girard can play both sides so there shouldn't be a conflict with Slavin and Skjei. Of course if the Canes re-sign DeAngelo there's no space in the top-4 for Girard and I agree the trade doesn't make sense.

One thing i would like changed though is the murray deal. 2mil is awfully expensive for him to be a healthy scratch for half the season again. I'd rather let him walk and sign manson for ~3.5 and have him play top 4</div></div>
Yeah I have no idea what the market will be like for Murray. He was injured half the season and then scratched throughout the playoffs. I gave him the same contract as last year for simplicity, but could definitely see him sign for less. Wouldn't hate having a better alternative there, but I don't know if it'll be Manson. I'd be comfortable paying him 4M, but not for the number of years he's going to be offered elsewhere.

Yeah it's really hard to say in this hypothetical (unrealistic) scenario. Giroux got the Flyers next to nothing because he'd go to one team. Crosby is obviously much better than Giroux but I do think if he set his sights on Colorado and Colorado alone it wouldn't be a MASSIVE return. Could definitely see Newhook needing to be added though.

3. if you want Crosby try and trade the whole franchise, makar rantanen landeskog etc. probably the pens still say no</div></div>
It's of course a hypothetical trade -- these are fan-made teams -- but if Crosby says he wants to be traded somewhere, management would grant his wishes and get the best value they could. This isn't a "Crosby is open to being traded anywhere open the bidding" scenario where Pittsburgh would get a massive return.
To your second and third points... yeah okay whatever you say lol
