Factor in the MacK extension

Created by: Cdavid24

Description
Had to factor in the eventual Mackinnon extension, so I created "MacKinnon" and had to put the actual player on LTIR to get rid of his existing cap number. But I think he signs a 7yr/$84mil extension and I'd be cool with that. From there, it's pretty explanatory. I added Phil Kessel onto this roster because I would just love to see him playing third line with THIS team. Probably put up 60 points easy. Let me know what y'all think.

MacKinnon is one superstar I could see take less to keep his team competitive. He is best friends with Crosby who has never made over $10 million to help his team. I think MacKinnon takes $10.5 million on a 7 or 8 year deal

Yeah probably, but both Sakic and MacKinnon want to get an extension done before the start of this year; it would make no sense for either to go into the new season without an extension done. Next year's higher cap will be used, you know... Next year.

I mean, how much more could he expect to get? Other than McDavid who makes, what, $13.25 a year?, who else makes $12 or more? I think Mac getting $12 for the next 7 years would satisfy him enough versus taking let's say, $12.75 for 7 or even more elsewhere.
Also, great profile pic. I should've just responded with "listen, I'm gonna need you to get ALLLLL the way off my back here ok?"

$15m is a number that gets thrown around for MacKinnon and Matthews. McDavid makes 12.5, but he also signed that contract like 5 years ago as an RFA.

Shortly after MacKinnon and Matthews are up for their extensions is when the cap is expected to start properly going up again, if they hit the open market, they will get offers that high.

I agree with everything you said here, but it’s important to note that Crosby’s situation is a little bit different. When he signed is 5/43M deal in 2008, the cap was 56,300,000, meaning his 8.7M deal accounted for 15% of the cap. It obviously went down from there, with his next deal in 2013 initially accounting for 13.5% of the cap (using 64,300,000 as a the cap). If Mackinnon took 13.5% of the cap in 2023, his salary would be 11.272M. So while Crosby never took 10M, he always took up a significant portion of his teams cap space

Makes sense, still think he takes under $12 million at least, we will see what the number is. Have to think they sign the extension this summer and don't wait until next year.

I think you could see Sakic getting him to bite on 8x$11M maybe? Gets him $88M through his age-36 season as opposed to $84M through age-35 - guess the difference is if he thinks he can still pull in a $4M AAV as a 35 year old? But I'd take advantage of the 8th year for him for sure.

I also love the idea of Kessel on this team and think he would sign for less at this point in his career - just make sure you play him every single day!

Add in all the hot dogs he can eat and I think he can't sign on the dotted line fast enough!

lmaoooo! also big bucks meaning this exact contract. his skills dont get any more, any less, but if he does go into free agency and is wanting all the money he can get, the he'll probably get more in bidding wars. pay cuts ive heard even include taking the same contract, around 6-7 mil, which in that case, itll be super easy, barely an inconvenience for colorado to keep building a contender
