Cup contending team

Description
Go at me for this. I do not see the canes trading necas at all. Reports are that canes are in on klingberg, this could finally be the year they pay for a D man. Another viable option is the canes giving up an additional 3rd and getting Barrie from the oilers as well. Viable option if they want an offensive d man but I don’t see the canes really wanting him that much. Do research on honka and ponomarev and you will see they are both very good prospects. Blues have a weaker pool and I see them being better than every prospect in the blues system that was not taken in the first round. Canes could throw in another defensive prospect because the blues top 3 prospects are neighbors bolduc and snuggerud, all forwards. Canes top 5 d prospects imo are morrow, seeley, honka, heimosalmi, and grudinin. Would be tough to see seeley or morrow go tbh. Dom fensore is also a good option at D to trade. Tbh any prospect from the canes is available for tarasenko that isn’t seeley, morrow, drury, gleb, or kochetkov. Anybody else is open season. Blues can take their pick at the canes prospects that aren’t those 5 and with the canes prospect pool being among the best in the league, it’s a field day for the blues. Bringing in the staals is kinda a gimmick but Marc is a viable 7D and it would be treason if eric doesn’t retire a cane. I see them bringing in Marc realistically to play as 7D and eric to retire a cane and hopefully win one more cup. A team with 9 top 6 forwards, a d core that is top 10 in the league, and a tandem of Freddie and koochie should be favorites to win the cup. I would love if the canes even made 1 of these moves. I see them all as ways to better the team for the cup.

Blues aren’t going to retain anything, would need a third team to take on half and canes would eat rest. Also don’t think there’s enough quality in that package. Agree that Honka and ponamarev are solid prospects but imagine blues want one higher end prospect and a first instead of quantity.

Also believe it’s a mistake to move Raanta. Org goalie depth will be important and rather Koochie get a full year starting in the A.

        1: Blues decline
2: That condition makes no sense, how would you be able to make phillys 2nd a 1st if you make the cup, when you dont have phillys first?

Oilers don't need a serviceable backup as Skinner losing his waiver exemption and will fill that role. There's a reason Oiler fans suggest Necas, he is only player on the canes that fills Hollands ask of a player that helps the Oilers now and is within the same ballpark value wise.

My problem is the lack of super high end guys in Carolina’s system. Not having firsts for a while isn’t doing too well for the super high end but the quality they get for their picks is unmatched. Only things I would critique from the 2021 draft was the second round. Could have had stankoven at 44 and raty was the pick right after koivunen. Sure heimosalmi and koivunen are good prospects but not who I wanted as a fan of the team. One year later it is showing, they could have those two assets but it’s fine if they don’t, worse things could happen and can’t be mad with who they have in the system at all. Anyways before that tangent started I was gonna say how the top end talent in the system in my opinion is just morrow, gleb, drury, seeley, and koochie. Personally I think Gunler, pono, honka, suzuki, and lafontaine are all top 5 prospects in the blues system. Our system is weaker at the top but the strongest at the bottom, giving up quantity is in our best interest. Hell I said all of this and forgot completely about nikishin, he could be an option as well. Pashin is pretty solid himself. Letting the blues pick 3-4 guys who would be in their top 5 who aren’t in our top 5 is a pretty good option for them.

You want it to be the canes 2nd and if they don’t make the cup have it be in the late 50s early 60s. If you want it specified that the pick upgrades from phillys second to the canes first you can have that. Finally, all the prospects offered would be in the blues top 5 as their current pool is. Like I said in the description, do your research and you will be pleasantly surprised with the return on those 3. If the problem is retention then have Chicago retain more and canes can offer up a higher pick to them. Before the draft, the blues had 2 top 60 prospects, bolduc and neighbors, both whom I believe are under morrow. If you want morrow instead he would be the guy you get instead of suzuki and honka and I would say the pick turns into the canes third with the option of upgrading to a second. I’d imagine that if tarasenko isn’t traded before the season starts, his value tanks well below this. I don’t see any other GM offering up what the canes offer here and wouldn’t be surprised if the blues got less than this is tarasenko isn’t traded by the seasons start.

I get that but I think the offer gets beat out with quality. I also don’t think Suzuki or lafontaine are valuable right now. Both have regressed for different reasons and I don’t think either are more than throw ins as it stands today.

I get that, I also there being a world where the oilers don’t get the UFA goalie they r searching for. Raanta played really well in the playoffs till fatigue set in which is why he is a backup. Your man Stu isn’t bad at all, but I see Raanta being a guy they would want. Guaranteed goalie on the team with playoff experience. 2.26 gaa and .922 save percentage in a playoffs with tougher competition. Skinner in the same sample size (13 games) posted 2.62 and .913 in regular season games. If no guy gets brought in for Edmonton this is a very real possibility for a 1A 1B situation. I know necas is the only guy the oilers fans trade for pulju but u gotta realize Waddell is on record saying necas isn’t going anywhere. Only way I see him getting moved is for a long term RD aka chychrun. That’s the only way he gets moved. Not for puljujarvi, not for a rental, but for a long term elite RD

Hey, ya know who else is a Cup contending team? The Blues. You're not getting their leading scorer for an okay stack of futures. And retention is out of the question unless the Canes want to do something epically stupid.

Dude, Suzuki is of no interest whatsoever. They have to offer things the Blues want, not what they want to give up.

I sadly have to agree with you there. Only reason why I see any teams wanting suzuki or lafontaine is their past accomplishments, not their most recent ones. Suzuki being a first round pick and lafontaine winning goalie of the year in the NCAA is the reason I see them holding any sort of value. I think lafontaine just was thrown into the worst situation he could have had this year. He played awful with Carolina in the NHL, decent in the AHL, but was outshone by pyotr and makiniemi. Going into this season he was our top goalie prospect, now he’s our third. Still I believe he has NHL upside and could be a fringe starter but he has to have a change of scenery. Suzuki just isn’t who he was projected to be. I was hoping he would be making the NHL jump this year. If he balls out in the AHL this season he could make the jump next year but if he isn’t at at least PPG in the AHL this season he’s kinda toast.

Unless binnington has an insane bounce back season no they aren’t. Your “top scorer” has wanted out for over a year now, blues aren’t in a playoff position at the TDL, they sell on tarasenko lower than this offer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the blues finish as a lottery team this year, especially after husso leaving. Wouldn’t be surprised if Perron leaves as well. They have 9 mil in cap to work with and an awful goalie. Maybe it’s just me but a cup contending team normally doesn’t have a goalie who has a goalie with a 3.13 gaa and a .900 save percentage.

Ok, come back to this at the TDL and prove me wrong. Otherwise I will continue to believe what I believe based on actions. Blues leaving tarasenko exposed at the expansion draft was a big one. He wanted out is on record requesting a trade, blues tried to incentivize the kraken taking him over dunn. I don’t know how I’m delusional when I’m just speaking the truth. Let’s see where the blues are at the TDL and then you can talk to me

I mean neither are the canes they can’t win on the road against and blew one of the easiest runs to the cup they could’ve had
Blues had to face the Avs and were the only team that looked good against them
Binner is a top 10 goalie rn combined with a top 5 offense, that is a cup contender.
Lastly VT wants to stay, Binner bounced back, and it’s more likely Perron signs under 5 mil than leaves

Names of interest in a Vladi trade. Necas, Slavin, Skjei, Morrow. If it doesn't include atleast one of these names, it's not happening.

Canes would still have to add with Skjei though, not sure what. Atleast one of those names gets a conversation going. Past that I couldn't say what a fair deal for both teams is.

I’d do Skjei plus a pick probably. Necas as well but would want an extension in place.

Slavin isn’t in conversation for me unless you add in pieces you would never want to. He’s not untouchable but you’d hate what it costs to get him.

Morrow I wouldn’t trade for Tara - I would move him but would need to be for a younger impact player imo.

Yea, if Slavin and Morrow are kind of the untouchables here I'd prefer a package centered around Necas. Has good upside, can fill a bit of the scoring we'd be missing and saves us some cap space for other moves/signings. Again, not sure what's exactly fair for each team so won't go much deeper than that. Could even see a couple pieces going each way.
